Having installed Windows 7 twice over the weekend - the first HDD failed, not related to Windows afaik - I had to reinstall all the drivers for my peripherals. 7 makes this so simple now - just plug in the device and a mini-window pops up showing the progress of installing the drivers. No need to find the original CDs, no searching the internet, it's all done for you.

How does Linux fare with this? Would the drivers for my Logitech G15 or Belkin N52TE keyboards be loaded automatically?

That's what the console manufacturers would have you believe. However, if you look at games that are available across the platforms, those that come to the PC generally have better graphics on the PC. Take Grand Theft Auto IV for example - the draw distance is much higher on the PC so you can see further. Call of duty - on consoles it's so difficult to aim properly, most servers run auto-aim. With a PC, the mouse is so intuitive and precise, you don't need auto-aim. As for graphic intensity, consoles make a big thing of running at 1080p - PC gamers tend to look at 1900x1200 as the standard resolution.

I do play games on my PC and they look fabulous. However, if you could run GFWL and World of Warcraft on Linux, I'd probably switch.

I'd inform Trading Standards and then take the machine back to Tesco to demand a refund. If they are passing off old stock as new, claiming that you can get software free when you can't, that's got to be illegal.

How did Phoenix Four do it? 4:55pm on 11 Sep 2009 As I understand it, had the Phoenix group not bought Rover, everyone concerned would have been out of job immediately. What these 5 men did was to prolong the death-throes of Rover and keep a lot of Brummies in jobs for an extra 4 years.

Who cares that they walked away with millions? Rover was never going to survive. The only travesty here is that the inspectors have pocketed £16m for this report.

Who is batting for file-sharing proposals? 1:31pm on 28 Aug 2009 @81: Taking your example to suggest that if the BBC owned the rights to a programme and you were downloading it in the UK, I can't see a problem, due to the unique way in which the BBC is funded.

However, if the rights were owned by any other commercial broadcaster, including the BBC for overseas countries (BBC World carries adverts), then by torrenting the programme you'd be causing the broadcaster to lose potential income.
Time for an Apple rumour 12:19pm on 17 Aug 2009 I'm hoping the announcement will be an iPhone at reasonable price in the UK. In the US you can get one for $99, here it's £299.
