Fair play to the Lions for the win on Saturday, they deserved some rewards from this tour and Saturday's test was an accurate result of the match. The Springboks were outplayed, largely because of problems within the SA back row caused by the absence of some key players and a real weakness in the FH position.

The tour as a whole has been a success for the Lions.

The Spingbok team has the right players and great depth back into the supporting players and second strings. Our problem lies in management, De Villers is a liability and without Dick Muir as his sidekick we would be horribly exposed.

John Smit is a fantastic captain, and surely ranks with the greatest captains of recent years. I enjoy comparing him to Sean Fitzpatrick, as a real leader and role model both on and off the field, exceptionally hard and tough but always fair.
Can wounded Lions salvage more than pride? 09:10am on 03 Jul 2009 Go Springboks, this might be the 'second' string but each and every individual player could easily have started in any of the two previous tests. It will be nice to put the unsavoury incidents of last week from both teams behind us, and once again focus on the 80 minutes.

Hook on the bench is about one week too late, his versatility in the backs could have prevented the Lions collapse at Loftus.

Springboks to win by at leats ten points.........

As a Blue's Fan who is also South African, I have mixed loyalties with this tour. Whilst I wanted to see the Lions and especially the Welsh contigent doing well, I fully expect SA to win at least two of the three tests. My Q is, Loose Forwards are a critical position these days, and how do you see the SA trio (Spies, Burger and Rossouw) stacking up against the best the Lions have to offer.
How I long for a proper Christmas 09:38am on 16 Dec 2008 Good blog Gav. This year as I sit back watching the footie over this festive season eating some leftover turkey and stuffing rolls, I will raise a glass in cheer to the footballers who go without to bring me some entertainment.
My only compliant about a mid-winter break, is that it would ruin a great British tradition. As a kid freezing my bits off in the stands was great when my dad used to treat me for Xmas. Mind you I don't take my kids to football these days anyway, the swearing in the stands is far too colourful for kids. Plus as a supporter of a top team (well closer to the bottom of the top really), I would need an overdraft for the ticket prices.
Giving it some thought, take the break! I'll watch reruns of the Great Escape and 007 movies on the Beeb and ITV. Merry Xmas
What do you think about Monkey? 2:41pm on 24 Jul 2008 It is really time that the BBC are held accountable to the general public for the needless wasting of Licence payers money. Surely a graphic of the Olympic Logo and the text China 2008 should have sufficed. Mind you obviously the BBC is in dumb-down mode with the cartoon graphics, following on from the 2008 Euro football cartoons. STOP WASTING MY MONEY
Zimbabwe future on ICC agenda 2:46pm on 24 Jun 2008 It's shocking that a decision has not already been made regarding Zimbabwe's participation in any and all International Sports. I should be made clear to all Zimbabwean Sports Bodies that they will be unable to attend any International Sports Event until their one-sided version of democracy is ended. I'm unsure if they are attending the Olympics, but they should not be allowed too.
