Introducing green cuts 9:46pm on 25 Nov 2009 Get rid of 50% of civil servants and that should return a cracking carbon saving. No-one would miss them.

Anyhow, why the fuss about climate change? It is going to happen - human nature is that people will not give up a way of life without a fight - so let the petro-chemicals run out and when that happens we will be forced to find an alternative. Of course more than a few of us will probably be under water and there will be worldwide famine, war and species extinction but, hey, things will sort themselves out eventually. Probably.
Spot the difference 07:46am on 24 Nov 2009 I am sick of hearing rubbish from Brown whereby he suggested the UKs economy is dependent upon a strong Indian economy. This is just code for outsourcing more UK jobs to India. What he conveniently refuses to acknowledge is that the vast majority of money paid to UK workers (whether call-centre or contract IT staff) is re-invested in the UK economy. Not a penny of what is paid to India (and especially that from the Taxpayer) benefits the UK economy. It all goes into the Indian economy and, in a time of of mass UK unemployment and falling tax receipts, that is just plain stupid. Reverse the trend, Brown. Invest in Britain!
Asset sale: Deja vu? 3:19pm on 12 Oct 2009 This is typical Gordon Brown behaviour - re-announce something (anything!) to make it look as though he actually has a plan and is not really totally bereft of original ideas. I just wish he would not play his pathetic games with our money. He does not have a particularly good record of such sales (the Big Gold giveaway, the Qintetic bargain of the decade, etc).

He continues to do so much damage to this country. His behaviour should be considered treasonable.

You should have told him to stick his interview where the sun does not shine and praised McGovern for standing by his principles.

How can anyone take you as a serious political journalist when you are so obviously partisan?

Roll on 2010, when we can clear out this Labour rubbish and also their sycophants in the public-owned media.
Lord Mandelson interview 10:09am on 18 Dec 2008 "Part-privatisation" is just code for "sell off the bits that make money and leave the rubbish for the taxpayers".

Why else would a commercial company consider purchasing it?

The Government have been limiting the Royal Mail's ability to run profitably by opening up the mail market to competition. Unfortunately, they opened up only the profitable parts of the business and they were the parts that subsidised the loss-making elements - such as daily deliveries to rural areas. So, the likes of TNT were encouraged by Labour to cherry-pick the good parts of the business, without insisting that they also take a representative part of the loss-making business.

Now, they want to do further damage to Royal Mail with the intention of causing further chaos. In this chaos, the Government would take control of the Royal Mail pension fund - hopefully without the taxpayer noticing it has been stolen and they have been left to also pick up that bill!

I would like to see innovation in areas such as recycling and renewable energy. Why on earth are we transporting waste plastic and paper to China when we could recycle the materials here? The resulting 'raw' materials could then be used for manufacture in the UK or exported as a valuable commodity. Likewise, we should be manufacturing high-quality solar arrays for water heating and solar panels for electricity generation(preferably using recycled materials!). Why do we import wind turbines for power generation? They are made in Germany for goodness' sake! Surely we can compete with Germany?

Rather than waste billions of pounds of taxpayer's money recapitalising banks, pour the money into the above with the aim of making the technology affordable and providing every household with some renewable capacity (flats might be a problem).

Sure, it would be a medium term plan, but it would provide a massive benefit to the economy, to British citizens and to the environment.
I put it to you . . . 11:52am on 10 Dec 2008 As for Ireland, their economy has really gone down the pan recently. There is a high degree of concern in Ireland about the economic future and their dependency on Europe.

Cynically, the EU presidency is feeding this fear to bully the Irish into casting the 'right' vote in a new referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

I know it is politics and, as such the people do not matter, but does it not leave a bad taste in one's mouth?

The fact that huge tracts of previously industrialised land stands unused is nothing to do with being part of the UK.

Neither is there anything to stop these areas from being developed right now.

Oh, maybe one thing - nobody wants to develop that land. Scotland - as with similar areas within the rest of the UK - is too expensive to compete with the likes of Korea, Poland, India, Malaysia, etc. where government incentive is high and labour plentiful, reliable and relatively cheap.

Heavy industry was not assassinated in the UK by the Government of the day, it died because it could not compete with the rest of the world.

If you think you can regenerate industry on those areas of Scottish 'wastelands' - go for it. There is nothing to stop you but economic reality.

For all that they speak funny, my experience of Aussies is that they have tremendous heart, a great sense of humour and are very generous.

So it is a great idea holding the homeless world cup in Melbourne. If that does not give the participants the incentive to work hard to improve their personal lot, then they are beyond hope and the next tournament should be held in Siberia.
Serious questions to answer 11:07am on 05 Dec 2008 So, Labour Minister breaks the Law with regard to donations and is not charged.

Tory MP releases information that embarrasses the Government - but does not break the Law - and a platoon of anti-terror police raid his homes and offices.

The sooner we are rid of this Government, the better - and safer - we will be.
