Phil McNulty Q&A 7:28pm on 11 Nov 2009 Credit where it is due, Phil, you've admitted your mistake about Liverpool.

However, of greater interest to real football fans will be how the Manchelsea strangle hold on the title can be broken.

If a team like Liverpool are so far off the pace (and have been mostly for the last 15 years), what can anyone else do to get a look in?

The last outsider to win the title was probably Leeds back in 1992, unless you count Arsenal.

Is City's money the answer or maybe Redknapp's nouse? The table says no!

Most of your writing is great, but you and others at the Beeb keep touting Liverpool as serious title contenders every year, with no evidence to back it up!

There seems to be in an in-built bias towards Liverpool in the BBC's football commentary. I've even written to the BBC Board Of Governors, to ask for an explation - though none has come yet.

Please can we stop having stories each year telling us how this will be Liverpool's year etc etc.
Mind your language 08:46am on 22 Sep 2009 Third Party, Fire or Theft? That's the choice faced by the electorate. It will either be the meaningless Lib Dems, the Tories firing anyone and everyone to slash costs, or Labour thieving every last penny from us in higher taxation!

In case you hadn't noticed, this is the p.c. world we now live in. Which is why councils cut down conker trees in case a child injures themselves collecting conkers.
It should come as no surprise then that a cricket match should be called off because of a speck of mud. Maybe someone should have thrown a bit of old carpet over it.
More importantly, why does anyone bother to turn up to watch this stuff anyway? The other day a game could have had a rain reduced result off only 23 balls.
A farcical format deserves a farcical abandonment. Give us proper cricket again.

Talking of teapots, I'm off to have a cuppa.
Strauss's England worthy winners 07:37am on 24 Aug 2009 Great win, but can't agree about Strauss' captaincy. The only valid comparison with Brearley is they both played for Middlesex. Ponting's captaincy was poorer than Strauss, that's all you can really say. But is was enough to win, which is all that matters.

Incidentally, the Lord Brocket reference might be unfortunate. Brocket is a playboy aristocrat who did time for insurance fraud!

His only apparent qualification for the job is his status as an iconic Geordie. No coaching badges or experience and 46 tough Championship matches next season will find him out.

What Newcastle need is a sound manager with a proven track record of success. Then they need to give him five years to create the team.

Shearer has failed and will kick himself for succumbing to the temptation of leaving the comfort of pundits' sofa.

Alan Hansen has much more sense than that!

An old Chinese proverb says it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

Apart from some inspired substitutions in one match, Newcastle's form dipped even lower under his management.

Newcastle don't need another Messiah. They required an experienced manager to stabilise the club and then push for promotion.

The Toon Army may think it can't get any worse. If the wrong manager is chosen, it could be disastrous.

1. If deposed, the Speaker has to leave the Commons that day, precipitating an immediate By-Election.

2. Martin stands to gain approx. £100,000 in additional pension entitlement if sees out his full term.

You should watch Sky News a bit more!
