Charging for online news 6:15pm on 06 Aug 2009 There is one slight flaw in Mr Murdoch's idea. A lot of people won't pay for the inaccurate and biased reporting.
The BBC already charges for its website via the licence fee and any increase in the fee would be fought. After all, we do have to have something and the TV is dire these days.
In fact, come to think of it, no news for a few weeks would be very pleasing. Careful, jounalists, we just might learn you are not needed!

Michael Jackson coverage 2:09pm on 07 Jul 2009 The coverage of Jackson's death has been far too extensive. The BBC has developed a cult of personality in line with the rest of the new media and have great pleasure in over reporting celebrites. Once it was the channel to watch for news, now it is not. The arguement for the licence fee is founded on its impartiality and capability. Both can seriously be questioned.

I think you are mistaking an honest comment about the average 'gold plated' pension with a plea for a better one. To add another stat the average non-public sector pension is currently around £6000 BUT it is dragged down by widows and orphans pensions whereas these are separated out from the public sector average. If they are included the average is roughly the same as for the private sector.
Fixing the Have Your Say fault 08:25am on 06 May 2009 This has lasted far too long now. Come on BBC what is really going on! If the average company couldn't fix this sort of fault quickly they would be out of business!

Could I suggest that you take a hard, long look at the all too evident bias in reporting from Messrs Robinson and Peston? I stopped believing in your news when I realised how rarely you reported accurately anything other than the latest spin from this discredited Government.
A bank insurer, not a toxic bank 3:06pm on 17 Jan 2009 I have the distinct impression that the toxic debts are so tangled that no one knows which is which! Until the bad debts can be easily identified it is hard to see what can be done to sort them out.

Hopefully interest rates will start to rise soon to encourage saving. If not I can see issues ahead!
Another Black Friday 3:17pm on 12 Dec 2008 But HBOS are one of my delights! They are running an advertising campaign for recruitment locally which has a member of staff pictured with a quote that "For him it is working for a successful company" and I always laugh at it.

On a serious point, the Germans are right and in our hearts I suspect most of us know it. The really frightening thing is that Team Brown seem to be improving their position in the opinion polls! Well, if they win, they will have to face reality and then the Tories get in and spend thirty years sorting out the mess.

One further point are the police empowered to search the House of Commons with a search warrant? Surely Rex v Sir R F Graham-Campbell and others ex parte Herbert (1935) 1 K.B. p 594 applies to this case?

It is some time since I looked the case up but so far as I can recall it was concluded that the Magistrate had no power to order an investigation into how the house conducted itself.
