Capello's World Cup contenders 08:04am on 15 Oct 2009 How in the world some people think Beckham is still the player of the earlier part of thi decade is beyond me. As mentioned above, him and Owen are past their prime and should not be on the plane, unfortunately for us, they will probably both make it. How someone can say he is one of our top 5 players pased on international form is ridiculous. Are you one of the people who voted for Beckham to be man of the match last night? How can you be in top international form if you are never trusted with more than a 15-20 minutes as a substitute? And if you honestly think that "90 minute work rate, pin point passes, pin point crosses, defense, experience, great football brain" is what Beckham posses, then why does Capello not start him? Because he can't last 90 minutes. His defending is shocking, he has no recovery pace. His assests are long range passes and crossing, but then when you come on in the last 20 minutes of games, there are more gaps and hence you can make the most of those attributes.

Also, disappointed you didn't mention Bent Phil. Top english goal scorer in the premier league. Has scored goals with his head, feet, inside and outside the box, and proved a capable penalty taker (which could be crucial next summer).
Diving me crazy 4:44pm on 28 Aug 2009 While this is a (relatively) funny blog, it is rather typical of the English press to talk about diving when a far more serious issue has tarnished our sport this week. Why no six point guide to preventing the hooligans from acting in that manner again? Why do we look to moan about diving when what happened at the Boylen ground on Tuesday night is by far a more serious matter? I am no fan of diving, but all of you who are on here criticising Eduardo's actions answer me this. If it was your team in a cup final or England/Scotland/Wales etc in the World Cup final and one of your teams players dived to win a penalty to put you one nil up, would you criticise? Probably not is my guess. Diving is abhorrent, but I can understand it. Hooliganism is also abhorrent, but I just do not understand it.

Sunderland have been linked with two South American players playing in Mexico, Paulo Da Silva and Humberto Suazo. Can you please let me know a bit more about the players, if you think they have what it takes to succeed in the Premier League and what you think they are really worth?

I only know very little information on either player, Suazo was world's top scorer in 2006, Da Silva has 50+ caps for Paraguay.
Back in the Real world 2:54pm on 04 Jun 2009 They negotiate their own TV deals too, none of this sharing the wealth that the Premier League do. Barca are the same and I'm sure if you look up the value of their TV deals, they would run into the 100s of millions!

You clearly know nothing of the Messi situation. He was at a club in Argentina but was considered too small and too brittle to play football. Barcelona brought him and his family over at the age of 12 and paid for all the treatments he required in order to ensure that he could play football. Without Barcelona, Messi would be another kid who did not make the grade. Why do you think he loves the club so much? They have allowed him to play football for a career.
Capello determined to tame Spain 1:59pm on 10 Feb 2009 The defeat and the performance in 2004 were overshadowed by the racist chanting. We were bad that night, really bad. Not able to retain possession and lacked ideas when we did have possession. If nothing else, I would like to see a team that can hold onto the ball and threaten their opponents. No long balls up to Heskey. Lets keep hold of it, and make the Spaniards run around chasing after the ball.
Hacking off Hackett 10:26am on 19 Sep 2008 Hang on. All too prevelant in English football?!?!? How many times do you see an Italian defender scythe through a striker on the halfway line, knowing full well at worst he will get is a yellow card. Better to do it near the centre circle less likely to get a red card that way.

That sort of defending has been around for years. Don't start pointing fingers at English defenders, they aren't intelligent enough to have thought of it.

Also to compare the Guthrie tackle to the Terry one is comical. One was malicious intent to hurt a player (Ben Thatcher style) the other was to prevent a goal scoring opportunity, hardly intent to cause serious harm.

I think some people need to pull their heads out of their biased points of view and realise that sometimes even their rivals get the raw end of the deal.

Capello at home in hostile Zagreb 10:07pm on 09 Sep 2008 The problem with England now is that we have accepted the Boo Boys. Now I fully appreciate that we are entitled to have a go if we do not think that the team are performing to a basic standard. To boo the team is counter productive. They will know when they are playing badly. Get behind the team and cheer on the three lions rather than booing and putting a wedge between the fans and the team.
