The culture of copying 12:34pm on 29 May 2009 I'm an avid avid user of Virgin's On Demand service, and spend a lot of money each month on premium content. Yes Virgin have the infrastructure, but they are leading the way and it's about time others followed. Even with this though I still download due to the size of the library available.

Even with such examples, the content industries still haven't figured out what to do:

* Simple to use access to all content. This means without limited libraries, international boundries or DRM.
* A reasonable price point where the (now-pointless) middleman and the artist get fair recompense, but without taking the consumer for a ride.
* Ability to buy the content once and enjoy it however we like.

If they provided this tomorrow, I would have no need to download anything at all, and therefore I wouldn't. That would partially solve their problem. International action would be needed to solve the problems in other countries, especially the developing world.

Also at some point there has to be acceptance that there will always be a hard core who don't want to and won't pay for their content. At this point trying to stop these people will only hurt the consumer.

Broadband Britain - slowly getting faster? 09:49am on 15 Dec 2008 At the minute, it's not exactly the top end speeds that are the problem! Rather it's the bandwidth used by the content providers.

I've got an "up to" 8mbps service, which generally runs at 4.8-5.5 mbps. More than enough to stream low quality video. However, between 6pm and 10pm, it's impossible to get a feed from the ITV Catchup service which doesn't need to buffer every 15 seconds. This is because the amount of bandwidth itv give to a stream isn't enough.

This is just an example, and from my experience it is an increasing problem. All is well and good getting 100mbps to the home, but if you can't get the speeds from the providers then it's wasted.

Maybe the process needs to be changed somewhat to take account of the fact that anyone can make a mistake, however the goal of the IWF is correct.

Comparing the ethical and correct (!) censorship of images the police have advised as illegal, to the Chinese system whereby all non-conformist thought is censored, is extremely misleading.

I agree the process that the IWF utilises needs to be adjusted, but so does the attitude of most of the doomsayers.
