Yes, I totally agree, and in this Country it's called the NHS !

There are actually some real issues here but not the one's commonly touted by the Harridans on both sides. It is about personal dignity and the acceptance of some simple long established rules:

Do no harm...

Nurse the sick...

Comfort the dying...

The fact that technology can extend life, must be tempered by a judgement based upon the quality of that life and whether those resources might be better spent upon a more viable case and whatever the "Health System"... Think about it because and regardless of personal ability to "pay", the real issue is purely medical in terms of both private and State paid health care.

The real question concerns ethics rather than cost, at exactly what point and under what circumstances does a Doctor move from trying to "cure" to providing purely "palliative medicine". How can we as fellow "privately insured" or "tax payers", ensure that our "cash contributions" are being used properly in this context ?

Regardless of cost, we first need to get the "context" right. Did George Best deserve a liver transplant that he rather quickly abused ? It makes little to no difference whether Health Care is funded privately or publicly, what really matters is a holistic appraisal of the potential outcomes driven by both medical possibilities and best value to the whole community whether fellow insurance holders or taxpayers.

Just why don't we have the UK results yet ? They should have been released 2 minutes past 10:00 PM so what went wrong, Gordon Mugabwe needed more time to doctor the results ?
Is it a soak-the-rich Budget? 2:31pm on 22 Apr 2009 Considering what a totally silly idea the VAT cut was, the reality it seems to me and the one avoided today and left for an incoming Tory Government goes as follows:

Leave the top tax rate at 40% - it makes sense because it aligns with IHT and Capital Gains Taxes.

Raise the Tax a NI Thresholds substantially and increase the basic rate of Income Tax by - whatever necessary.

Restore VAT to 17.5% immediately and accept that it will have to rise in stages to a peak of around 20% over the next 4 years.

All of this with genuine reductions in the size of the State and very harsh remedial action on State Sector Final Salary schemes.

This was clearly a "Political Budget" in the sense that Labour accept that the Tories will win the next election so they have left all the hard choices to them. The reason obviously being that they hope that as Cameron tackles the economy and becomes unpopular, it will leave room for a quick comeback by Labour.

However that won't work because Brown will do a "McCavity" post the election defeat and Labour will not have anybody to lead them effectively for at least a decade or more.
Ring out the old 08:35am on 31 Dec 2008 The key problem with the Lisbon Treaty was illustrated by the EU Parliament over the "Working Time Directive" which even if all the British MEPs had voted against it, would still have been passed and imposed on the UK. It makes Gordon Brown's "Red Lines" totally meaningless and therefore, the Labour Party has sold the UK into EU Bondage.

As to the Lisbon Treaty itself, even before that was signed, Brussels had already started to put in place all the measures intended under the EU Constitution, it is the way they work and always will.

The UK needs to negotiate a "trade only" deal with the EU first and then, put stay in or leave in a Referendum, it is time that democracy was restored in the UK.
Sarkozy's amour propre 7:06pm on 13 Dec 2008 Sarko has one thing going for him, in my opinion, a tasty wife as for the rest, like Gordon Brown, he is just plain nuts and not taking his medication as perscribed !

As to the EU, it is still today what it has always been, a pact between France and Germany not to do a re-run of 1870, 1914-18 or 1939-45 and all the smaller countries keeping their heads down and hoping they don't.

What on earth are we in the UK doing being part of this charade ? Europe is a great place to have one's 'Hols' but you wouldn't bring home 80% of their Laws as a souvenier would you ?

Oh, and for the moderators, of course you won't publish this or anything 'negative' and not totally Lesbian, Left Wing and Politically Correct in all particulars.

You were totally silly to write this blog, move on, you are only pointing out your own failings as a journalist which has the faintest whiff of an "ego thing". People like you have to come to a decision concerning how you want to be seen, a "man of principle" like David Davis who will throw the dice or, a jobbing journalist getting paid a salary.

Your view of Davis seen through the prism of the media Zeitgeist was no different from any other "media hack" because the story lacked the black and white drama that sells papers and advertising unlike "Nazi Sex Party...Mosley, FF1" de dah...

Best advice, move on and forget it, bringing it up again merely makes us question whether you are worth a fart reading/listening to in the first place and, having sown the seeds of doubt yourself... don't bitch sunshine.
Labour lagging in by-election race 7:24pm on 05 Jul 2008 To be totally honest, I'm not too sure what this is all about. I want Labour and Brown to continue in Government until May 2010 so that we are all suitably softened up for the following 3-4 years of 'remedial action' to sort out the mess that Labour has left us in.

Why this particular Scottish MP resigned and the manner of it, seems all rather odd but then, it is Scottish politics clearly and, for Scottish people to dispose of as they see fit.

However I do have a really big gripe with the BBC that to me seems far more important: That poisonous little twerp Blears says following the Deputy Mayor "resignation" thing in London. "Tories in Disarray !" and that is a BBC headline which would be fair enough on a slow news day but...

Here we have a Labour safe seat with a 13,500 majority at the last election ( a hamster with a Labour rosette could win it), and the preferred Labour candidate declines and regardless of the reasons, where are the equivalent BBC headlines saying; "Labour in meltdown in Glasgow by-election".

Whoever we vote for we all pay our TV Licence fees and what we don't pay for is some snotty little BBC employee working out his or her 'political issues', fair is fair and the BBC is now corrupt.
Whoops-a-daisy 7:40pm on 05 Jun 2008 Actually, this man should be sacked for total incompetence - £400,000 over 12 years is really pathetic, Balls/Cooper do £300,000 a year in expenses between them from the UK Parliament. This MEP lacks the ambition to be a successful rouge and the necessary guile to get away with it.

So Null Points for Chichester, he didn't try hard enough. Why didn't he talk to the Kinnocks ? I bet they could have advised him better !
In defence of Europe 7:32pm on 05 Jun 2008 Frankly, it is a totally pointless exercise, the Continental EU members have at least on the "Western side" of Europe, been too used to sheltering under the US umbrella. They neither spend enough on defence nor as Afghanistan demonstrates, are willing to deploy troops into war fighting situations.

Those who have bravely, the Dutch and the Danes, are among the smaller EU countries, the larger ones like France, Germany, Italy and Spain, are next to useless militarily

Exercises looking at computer screens seems about appropriate, keeps them employed I guess, the UK should keep a distance, our Forces are busy enough already. This initiative was part of Blair sucking up to Chirac if memory serves me well, a typically vainglorious stunt for both of them.
Whoops-a-daisy 6:43pm on 05 Jun 2008 Yes Cameron has acted promptly and well done for that however there is something strange about the EU in the sense that it corrupts everyone who comes into contact with it. Whether politician, judge or civil servant, or journalist, they become infected.

The symptoms are: They become far too clever and knowledgeable to even think of trying to explain what the EU is about to "ordinary citizens". They then want a post with the Brussels Plutocracy which is never audited and public money = "my pocket money"

Worse than that, with 80% of our laws now being dictated to us from Brussels, our local MPs (Westminster Town Hall clerks) have also become infected with similar corrupt practices, the first commoner or Speaker Martin being the first one to put his trotters in the trough - latest prize a substantial Pension but, they are all at it.

We need to leave the EU and repeal a lot of pointless legislation so that all public servants are accountable before British Courts with no right of appeal beyond these shores. Look upon it like the time a few years back when British Soccer fans were banned from Europe, it helped sort out that problem !
