The Watson Open 1:53pm on 20 Jul 2009 To the chap who said Westwood's three-putt was "British sporting mediocrity at its best" don't forget the reason he three-putted was that he went all out for the birdie, which he thought he needed to beat Watson (and would have if Tom had holed that last one) and the ball ran on past. I would applaud that attitude.

However, Cink won by making birdie at the 18th where Watson, Westwood and Wood made a bogey - you can't gib really.

Treasury wants to cut pensions tax break 12:18pm on 20 Apr 2009 Yet again the goverment (and indeed Robert) spin it that higher rate tax payers "receives more" tax relief.

I would phrase it that under the current system, the government doesn't steal any money (via taxation) out of pension contributions.

Their proposal is that they steal 20% of the contributions made by higher rate tax payers.

Stop stealing from people and start cutting back the wasteful expenditure!
Nationalism may impoverish us 08:43am on 10 Mar 2009 The same theme runs through blog after blog - we can no longer expand the size of the pie for everyone. If China's slice is to expand (and with so many of its people so poor surely it's only fair) the only way is for our slice (UK and US) to shrink.

It's not nice for us, as it's been jolly nice to be a "rich" country and enjoy wealth beyond the dreams of most of the planet. But it is simply unfair and unsustainable.

However, we must make sure we still get a fair share ourselves in this new world - and i'm not sure whether the Bank of America are really helping that, even though Congress probably thinks they are.

If you multiply cash by ten, then asset prices will also be multiplied by ten.

With ten times as much money in the bank, I can afford to pay ten times as much for that house, car etc, and the builders, carmakers etc will demand wages of ten times as much.

Unfortunately it doesn't work.
Docking bankers' pay 1:01pm on 08 Feb 2009 I'm sure there will be calls from some quarters for previous bonuses to be repaid, but that seems a slippery slope leading to no-one's past earnings (in any industry) being safe.

Perhaps best to accept that some people are just luckier than others - lottery winners and Tony Blair come to mind ;) - and concentrate on making sure the excess never happens again.
