Chicago calling or roll on Rio? 5:12pm on 03 Sep 2009 Rio all the way! If such a city in a major country cannot win the games this time, better rename Olympics to Coca-Cola freak sport show (with golf, darts, Texas hold 'em, and video games as sports) and organize it in Disneyworld. Despite all the propaganda for Chicago, it is among my least favourite cities on Earth (besides Detroit). Those who ever visited the streets south of the Chicago dt area know what I'm talking about.

Climate change plan under fire 5:10pm on 16 Oct 2008 1. Climatology as science. Term science is misinterpreted here. Metaphorical example: A scientist studies extracted lottery numbers over a period of time. He uses advanced statistics and powerful computers. He comes up with interesting patterns in winning numbers. All this doesn't make him any more likely to guess the next extracted combination. This is what most climatologists won't tell you about their research. Their ability to accurately predict is very small. Climatologist can only say they are getting better over time, and that they are using supercomputers. That doesn't say their predictions are any good. BBC had a story on a climatologist who was angry at sattelite observations which showed that Amazon rainforest becomes greener due to more sunny days, contradicting his model. Not a behaviour you'd expect from a scientist.

2. Scare mongering. Y2K, SARS, Avian flu, market meltdown, climate disaster... There seems to be a predisposition in humans to speculate on catastrophies. It probably has to do with the religious/philosophical notion of doomsday.
Climate change plan under fire 11:50am on 16 Oct 2008 So called "Green" policies and arguments are flawed, false, and harmful. Climate has always been changing, and is a major factor in the evolution. It is a very preposterous notion that humans can significantly influence global climate, intentionally or not. Carbon dioxyde is introduced in hothouses since it boosts plant growth, whereas ecologists are trying to persuade us it is harmful. Temperature on Earth was already much higher (Greenland was green), and there was no doom because of it.

My opinion is that these ideas are favoured by:
1. Greedy governments looking for new forms of taxation
2. Social activists who are, actually, conservative. They wish to "preserve" status quo, as if it was dictated by some divine authority.
Germany's love of coal 10:17am on 25 Sep 2008 More CO2 in the air will mean that plants grow more, not less (CO2 is plant food). Why does everyone blatantly ignore this fact? More carbon emissions = greener planet.

I agree about hypocrisy, but the all-virtuous NATO powers totally ignore the paradox they created. Basically, NATO is there to protect US interests, and nothing else.

My language is not Russian, I am an Serbian living in Canada. 'She' may be used in English to refer to countries (as far as I know).
On the cusp 04:25am on 02 Sep 2008 Comparison of Russian intervention in Georgia and Hitler's expansion in 1930's is a misinterpretation. What the western countries did with Kosovo a couple months ago is very reminiscent of Munich 1938 (big European powers agree to split a country).

@Nasir89 - Polish government went along with this violation of international law. Is that the Polish honour you are talking about? What international law is going to protect Poland (or any other country) when she herself doesn't respect it?
Georgian and Russian athletes share emotional embrace 5:19pm on 10 Aug 2008 To IDFerrer, how hypocritical of you to remind us (from UK, I assume) what region is a part of what country. Wasn't it your shameless government, along with USA, that recognized the independence of Kosovo. You invalidated the international law, and all options are open now.
