Is all publicity good publicity? 12:18pm on 21 Oct 2009 The easiest way to kill off the BNP is to give them enough rope to hang themselves. Single issue parties rarely come across well on the national stage. It's a bit offensive to suggest the electorate are so ignorant that the mere appearance of the BNP on Question Time will imperil democracy. They are nothing more than a small minority party with some regional areas of support - hardly worth the amount of fuss that is currently going on.

I suspect the mainstream parties are pleased to have an opportunity to manufacture some outrage to deflect attention from their own shortcomings.
A prize deserved? 10:14pm on 09 Oct 2009 It's clearly a left-wing biased lobby group which in this case, has made itself look very silly. Obama may very well bring about a total change in the geopolitical world (and I hope he does) but the time to award him this prize is in 5 years - when he does or does not achieve this goal, not merely state it.

When you think back to the world of the 1960's and 70's, it is absurd that Reagan did not get an award while Gorbachev did. If F.W. De Klerk can share one with Mandela, then clearly Reagan is deserving.

Gandhi didn't get one. John Paul II didn't get one. Obama has one. I am very pro-Obama but this is crazy. I hope Obama can deliver on his message but the fact is, it is just a message so far. He will be judgeed on his achievements not his promises.
Should Darling back Lloyds' rights issue? 11:07am on 08 Oct 2009 As the largest shareholder, I can't see why the government would be unhappy if Lloyds did something to benefit their shareholders. It is no longer taxpayers vs. shareholders, they are one and the same.
Brown agrees to debate 12:40pm on 03 Oct 2009 It won't happen for precisely all the reasons listed in your blog Nick. How do you ensure fairness? Surely the SNP need to be included in a debate broadcast in Scotland? But they are of no relevance in England. Brown will want an audience of former miners on benefits from the North, Cameron will want rural middle-class people worried about the top rate of income. The problem with these debates is that no one will do it unless they get an advantage which can't be the case for everyone. It works in the US because it is a 2 party system, the UK now has too many parties of regional importance in NI, Wales, and Scotland.

Time running out in New Orleans for Reggie Bush 7:57pm on 17 Sep 2009 There were a lot of people who questioned whether Bush would make it in the NFL when he was drafted. It's not just hindsight. We've seen it many times, speed based running backs who put up huge numbers in college just don't translate as the NFL defence players are so much quicker. a lot of people thought his teammate Lendale White would have a bigger impact

Plenty to talk about, in private 12:20pm on 02 Sep 2009 If Brown had just come out and said he was trying to defend Britain's national interest I would have some respect for him. Trying to use some Scottish domestic minister as a human shield is pretty low grade even for him.

I am so bored of Gordon Brown - why can't he just call this election and put us all out of our misery?
Arsenal's revival faces Man Utd test 08:57am on 28 Aug 2009 As a Man Utd fan this is the first time for a few years I have thought we were genuinely not favourites for this game. It's going to be very interesting for sure and should tell us a lot about the two teams. Recent form suggests Arsenal should win but you never know who will rise to the occasion.
