Mark Durkan to step down 10:26am on 23 Sep 2009 What can I say other than Mark Durkan sees the writing on the wall for his party. Since John Hume left its been defeat after defeat and Sinn Fein continually gaining ground on them. A party which is a shadow of its former self. Mark was groomed to be the successor to John Hume, who has he been grooming to take over? Dare I say Mark H Durkan? It will be interesting to see who SF now put up to stand against Mark Durkan at the next GE as it may mean Mark looses his MPship and only left as an MLA in the Assembly. Either way he has made it loud and clear the fight is going out of SDLP and I am sure many of the sharks smell blood in the water from this statement

Interest rates were cut to boost spending because at the time there were indications of a recession. All that cutting interest rates did was delay the recession. Infact had we had a recession 5-6 years ago it probably wouldn't be half as bad as it is now or is going to be.

Boom bust is inevitable in all economies, the governments position is supposed to be there to step in when busts come for the benefit of its citizens and support them.

Gordon cutting interest rates again this week is a shrewd move politically and economically.

Economically it should in theory trigger spending and further demand in the economy but again delay a serious recession. The political side he knows he is out and this will time an economic slump either mid way or towards the end of a new tory term. The labour party will then pipe up about how the Torys are no good with the economy and look to get back in to power.

Eitherway it highlights government should not get involved in markets, let them equate.

Has Gordon Brown endorsed Obama? 3:43pm on 10 Sep 2008 Folks

As for Bottler Brown he will undoubtably do more harm than good to Baracks campaign. Any American with half a knowledge will see what disaray he has left this country in and think to themselves is he backing a candidate that will follow along a similar line of policies in the US and further destabilise the US. Otherwise anyone hearing of him may look him up and be goaded by cheesy grins, impulsive and ridiculous hand gesticulation, a thick head and down right arrogant personality. They may think why sould this man back Barack unless he sees similarities, worryingly a possibility. Alternatively his "Brownies" may show the American people how lucky they are to have a fantastic candidate like Barack Obama. I know UK politics needs a youthful and exciting candidate.

What is really worrying is the focus on Mrs Palin and not on her policies, attitudes, priorities. Apart from a high level view this woman is a mystery. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Also I have to say look at Baracks history both in the Senate which literally until the last minute was loosing until some bad press (be aware this could happen to the McCain Palin Camp - believe me people are undoubtably digging and me thinks Mrs P has a few dirty skeletons in the closet). Secondly the Democratic Primaries, Hilary was trumping him until late on.

I believe Barack Obama will win but it will be his traditional late minute rally.

And a possible leadership battle, who wants to lead a battle to run a party in this much chaos and poor reputation.

Tittle tattle? 4:34pm on 02 Jul 2008 When are we going to get a vote of no confidence for Mr Bean. Or will the oaf ignore thats happening too. The country is crying out for this man to go, who is going to be the strongest to oust him and at least attempt to get things back on track.

Good ole Gordie is not fit for this job in any shape, form or fashion. Start the campaign "Oust the Oaf!".

All Gordon seems to be doing is staggering quite poorly from one disaster to another. I'm pleading with the Labour Party, if you are desperate to keep in power get your act together and get Gordon out

Westminster rumours 2:06pm on 12 Jun 2008 Thankfully someone has the common wit to stand up against the ballot yesterday. My question is to those labour MPs who rebelled against the Oaf to do the same. Oh wait hold on if they did it would cause a by-election in their area, and going on recent records I don't think they would win.

The big brother state is here people, but the question is will the bill go through the Lords, me thinks not.

Mr Davis congratulations on standing up against this shameful act.

Haha Super stuff and I agree totally bar the fact that i believe Labour Government Plc is actually bankrupt especially with its recent acquisition - Northern Rock.

Anyone else waiting to see if 300 gets broken?
