Maradona learning the hard way 12:29pm on 07 Sep 2009 Hi Tim,

Rafa always said when he engineered comebacks that you don't have to throw all your weapons immediately after losing a crucial match in the first half, and when he needed power in attack he usually introduced 'wingers' and 'midfielders' (at the 60th + 70th minute) instead of strikers who would create chaos in the opponents box rather than creating goal chances and scoring them.

Maradona in my opinion should have packed the midfield and droped 'Tevez' or played him as a 'winger' instead of a 'striker' and if i were Maradona i would be worried if expected him to score goals because he is a 'headless chicken'.

a 4-5-1 formation with Milito or Aguero as a spearhead, Messi on the right and Tevez on the left would have damaged Brazil(although Brazil's goals came from set pieces) in such crucial matches you have to be very patient & when your opportunity comes you should take it, but Argentina had plenty and wasted them.

What's your opinion of the Brazil team? they look Italish! got the result and qualified, ok, but where is the Brazilian magic?

- I respect Pele, Maradona's rival, because he saved his self the flushes and refused managing the National team on many occasions, and preserved his status as a national icon.

If Argentina don't qualify, won't they blame their 'God' Maradona and won't he lose his status as the country's idol that was apparent when the croud chanted Dunga's name in the stands!
Benitez must blank out Ferguson 10:22pm on 18 May 2009 I see that Rafa Benítez is being criticised for not congratulating Alex Ferguson upon Uniteds success.

After the West Brom game, Rafa said:

"I prefer just to say well done to the club, a big club, a good club. Normally you have to be polite and respect the other manager but during the season we have seen a lot of things that I didn't like, so that's it. I say congratulations to United because they have won. And that's it."

Surely thats more than enough? After all, Ferguson is hardly noted for his grace in defeat, is he? When Liverpool had humped his team 4-1 at Old Trafford, Ferguson said United had been the better side. Thats the mark of the mans generosity. Very humble, Sir Alex.

The fact is Ferguson dislikes anyone who has the temerity to put up a challenge to his side. Arsene Wenger is now his best pal, given that Arsenal are a distant 4th. Years ago he despised him.

And anyway, why should Rafa congratulate a man who, in conjunction with his fat-headed best pal, launched a hugely personal attack on him, calling his actions beyond the pale over some innocent gestures that only two men in the whole world took offence to, and only did so six days after the event? (Not that they discussed and planned it during their regular phone chats.)

Rafas rant may have been badly timed, but it was an open and honest assessment at least from his point of view. Ill-advised it might have been, but there was no deceit involved. He told the watching world what he thought, for better or worse.

What Allardyce and Ferguson conspired to do was dirty, underhand, personal and pathetic. It involved managers of two different Premiership clubs trying to discredit another.

But its been wiped under the carpet, as has Fergusons laughable pre-match press conference for the Fulham game, when he bizarrely listed a load of inaccurate figures about Liverpools spending. Youd think Rafas rant was the only thing that took place this season.

United won the league, so congratulations to them. Yes, they benefitted from the worst refereeing decision of the season when they appeared to be choking big-time against Spurs, but their extra experience and depth to their squad saw them over the line, Howard Webbs inexplicable intervention notwithstanding.

But next season could be when it gets really interesting.

It's a disgrace for a club like Newcastle with such passionate, noisy fans and a breath-taking stadium to get relegated, because simply i feel that they have the same passion for the game the kopites hold!

Instead of having a go on Zonal marking, and rotation every now and then, can you explain why Rafa left it late to introduce Babel and restore Gerrard to CM, losing 3-1 at home when a goal would have obviously helped our case!

Especially when SG couldn't cut it against Essien as an AM, so why not change his position ; why didn't Rafa move him to the right flank (when it was clear Kuyt was ineffective)and let Benayoun take SG's position?
Hiddink's sweet smell of success 09:16am on 09 Apr 2009 It looked like we surrendered possession after the 1st goal, and the team didn't expect such an early goal, so having a goal to defend Liverpool were fragile at every Chelsea attack until Ivanovic scored a goal from a set-piece (Man U and Chelsea use the Man-marking system and leak goals, so why all this attack on the zonal-system? is it only because Liverpool employ it!)

We didn't know what to do after scoring such an early goal and that period of uncertainty could of cost us 2 goals (like the 1st 15 minutes of the Arsenal game at Anfield last year ).

Fabio Aurelio who had a resurgence in the last couple of months is looking a ghost of the same player and wasn't able to push up!, Kuyt should have scored that opportunity lobbing it over Cech, instead of shooting it at his body, and that opportunity could have changed the game!

It's the 1st time Rafa gets it wrong in the Champions League in his 5 year reign with Liverpool, so he will be forgiven, But and a big BUT, will Rafa and the players admit defeat and rest players for Tuesday and concentrate on the league, or will he go for it having nothing to lose?

It's funny how Maradona backed Bolivia to stage the WC qualifiers in La Paz last year, but obviously he wasn't the gaffer of Argentina at that time!
