First draft of UK economic history 11:53am on 23 Oct 2009 You are correct to say that our reconciled GDP figure is better correlated to Euro zone GDP figures than to the "first guess" GDP number.

It is also better correlated to steel consumption (in tonnes, not £ Sterling) and to copper and oil demand.

We are not at that point yet, and there is no serious attempt to do it any time soon.

The banks will not lend to each other because they don't know who is holding the high risk loans. There is no chance of them all being forced to be transparent; the truth is too ugly.

Those in a strong position would publish and be proud. The fact that this isn't happening says it all ...

Rate shock 8:46pm on 09 Jun 2008 Robert, you omit to mention that much of the so-called "growth" of recent years is funded by debt. How can debt be taken as growth. Growth is sustainable, debt is not - it has to be paid back.

House price rises are not profit either: real profit is only there when you sell something, and is not created by an estate agents evaluation.
Location, location, location 5:10pm on 22 May 2008 There are lots of good reasons distribute the jobs pool all around the province.

Look at what happened in London - a huge city with public service centralisation, company headquarters and manufacturing all became concentrated in one area.

The consequences? As above, but more so - it became a vicious circle. Then demand drove up house prices, and made it impossible for nurses, teachers, fire-men etc to live there, or for the locals to stay in the area they were born.

For our province to become truly prosperous, we NEED - all of us - to get out of our silos and think longer term and strategically about how we plan to grow.
