'Crown jewels' list sets arguments raging 1:12pm on 14 Nov 2009 I feel that people need to have a deeper look into the impact that pay per view channels have had on the sports they have televised.

Sky Sports have invested and made a major contribution to the development of cricket at all levels. Many local cricket clubs have coaches trained by sky money in the coach education programme. The impact at a grassroots level would be massive.

I understand the impact that free to air sport can have on participation for example our very own Olympics has been built on this promise. However, if the infrastructure is not there what is the point! I just wonder if we would be having this debate about cricket if England would have lost 5-0! Nobody was complaining when we lost 5-0 in 06/07!
GB's have-nots are broke but not broken 5:37pm on 03 Feb 2009 Surely this is an arguement around what the country wants to be successful in. The amount of money that has been handed to swimming is scandalous! Given the amount of medals that have come from the pool in the last 3 olympics Adlington aside should give reason to a massive cut along with athletics. However, the mass majority would prefer to win a couple of medals in the prestiege events rather than challenge at the top of the medal table with medals from shooting ect. Cycling and Rowing are great examples of NGB's that have put a winning system in place and spend money on winners. Not on people whos aim is to get into semi finals and finals.

Until NGB focus their elite programmes on winners and the general public shift their attention from the glamor sports smaller governing bodies will have to rely on handouts and scraps.
