Chelsea will suffer if transfer ban stands 10:10pm on 03 Sep 2009 Thanks FIFA - I think this will definitely improve Chelsea's chances of winning the league this year. We wouldn't have signed anyone in January anyway and there is nothing like a siege mentality to shore up the dressing room.

As for next year - sure there will be some impact - but still limited. Of the current squad, possibly only Deco may be past it by then. Anyone who has seen Ballack this season who find it hard to argue he doesn't have another couple of years left in him, and Drogba/Lamps/JT will still be at the top of their games. Injury is the one thing which could cause real problems, but if we avoid any serious knocks, then we'll be fine.
Cricket misses the point again 5:04pm on 02 Sep 2009 Paul Collingwood is an average cricketer and a poor Captain and clearly needs to learn a bit of humility to those who pay his wages (ie the paying public and Sky TV).

Yet again, a blatant lie to add to Brown's lies on spending. Nick, there is a year to the election - no opposition party would have finalised their plans this far out. Instead of questioning the honesty of George Osbourne to deliver yet unannounced policies a year from now, why are you not challenging the PM and the cabinet on the ever increasing misinformation and lies they are feeding to the public.
'Rebuilding Labour's Future' 9:54pm on 29 Jun 2009 So the funding for these new proposals are coming from 'existing budgets' rather than new money - but we're not told which existing budgets have been cut to release the funds. In the meantime, Gordon Brown keeps on repeating his mantra of Labour investment versus Tory cuts even though the facts say otherwise.

I wonder who will be the first of the Downing Street correspondents to point out to the PM that he cannot go on lying to the British people and get away with it. Or maybe I am asking for too much.

I don't think the British electorate are that stupid. Brown is now so desperate, he feels that misleading the country is the only avenue left to him.

Why tax the rich? 1:55pm on 24 Apr 2009 Gordon Brown simply couldn't resist showing his true socialist colours before he was kicked out.

Labour's scorched earth policy will leave some tough decisions for the Tories. Getting rid of the new 50% tax band will if anything increase tax receipts and reduce avoidance.

The NHS should (but will not) be the next port of call - a £5 charge for all GP appointments for a start for those in employment. Plus of course scrapping the entire tax credit system and helping only those that really need help.
Treasury wants to cut pensions tax break 7:44pm on 20 Apr 2009 I used to work in the private sector but recently moved to the public sector - and took a large pay cut in the process. The majority of public sector employees are poorly paid compared equivalent jobs in the private sector - the pension schemes are the one area which help to reduce to deficit. When times are good, no-one cares about public sector employees. Now there is a recession, all of a sudden the media make out we're the fat cats with the gold plated pensions.
The final frontier 1:59pm on 16 Feb 2009 As someone who has attended the majority of Chelsea games this season, I can only say that it was no knee-jerk reaction to fire him. The more Scolari coached the team, the worse it became. In addition to startging off games poorly, he had no plan B. If games were not going well he changed personnel but never the tactics. Not even trying Drogba and Anelka togther in a 442 when we were losing games was incomprehensible and we saw on Saturday the impact on the game when Wilkins did just that. A nice guy, but not only totally unsuited to the PL, but seemingly unwilling to learn from his mistakes.
Taxpayers' mortgage guarantee 8:11pm on 03 Dec 2008 great - I've been offered a nice redundancy package. Going to take that, travel round the world a couple of years, whilst the tax payer guarantees my mortgage. Even better, I'll rent out my flat on the quiet and earn a nice little income while not having to pay a penny on my mortgage.

Meanwhile pensioners and people who have carefully saved all their lives suffer from interest rates that could fall to zero % - and will have to pay higher taxes to pay for ever increasing public debt.

Have we ever had a more incompetent PM before? He won't be happy until he's got the whole country out of work and onto state benefits.
Don't panic! Lots more cricket to come... 4:31pm on 20 Aug 2008 As a TMS listener for a very long time, I too am dismayed by the direction the program had headed since the departure of Peter Baxter.

Without getting personal, some of the new presenters simply are not up to the job, and the one dayers in particular are heading towards tabloid radio.

TMS is an institution - sadly it does not seem to be in good hands.
