Tough World Cup draw for African challengers 10:33am on 06 Dec 2009 Oh, for gods sake. Can't a team of 'superstars' be drawn against a decent team before the final itself? We (Wales) had to play Germany and Russia, and probably beat them, to even get to the World Cup. The same thing happens every competition -we don't qualify so we get a tough group, so we don't qualify. Get rid of seeding and stop favouring 'Big' teams. (For the qualifying that may mean fewer, larger groups with say top 3 to qualify, but so be it. (South American teams seem to cope with the extra games) If they're so good, they'll still get through.
Public servants on $20m a year 8:02pm on 03 Dec 2009 Agree with all the reasons for not paying bonuses. As for the threat of resignations, let them. If they're so good they will find something better. Somehow, with a failed bank on their cv, I don't think they will find it easy...
Personally, I'd have already sacked them.
Semenya's sex test explained 3:07pm on 11 Sep 2009 I thought we were all now supposed to be indiscriminate. The solution is simple. Forget the seperate mens and womens events, and even the paralympics. Replace them with events open to ALL to see who is the fastest (runner, swimmer, wheelchair racer...), strongest, most technically gifted PERSON etc. The paradox is that I suspect the only people who will object to this are those who campaigned for equal rights over the last centuary or so!

He failed to make the tackle to save the final try and couldn't even bring himself to jump to even make it look like he was competing for the ball after his up and under. Sorry Ronan, I recognise your excellent tactical play but without BOD alongside to help you defend your international career would not have even begun. Hook should have been chosen today.
Corus, jobs and electricity usage 7:14pm on 25 Jun 2009 I'm not sure how you can blame the electricity useage drop on the recession. I think a significant factor would also be due to the green movement and people being more concious about what they use with prices being so high. I'm afraid that people with significant business influence like yourself should not be brandishing around flawed statistics and making judgements that can not stand up to scrutiny. In fact the link with Corus is a good one. Despite the increase in production at the Scunthorpe plant over recent weeks (although selling prices are low but they should rise to follow the increasing demand), and other positive signs, the Corus 'business analysts' are predicting that the worst of the recession is to come and will last many years. This is why todays knee jerked. Where do they get their information from? I sincerely hope it's not another case of a business analyst playing with his stats to 'prove' a point.
London 2012 cuts its cloth 6:22pm on 07 Jan 2009 Hopefully this will end the bonkers decisions that have been made to 'keep the games within the vicinity of London' such as building a mountain biking track in one of the flattest parts of the country. Maybe now they will do the sensible thing and host the sport somewhere like the Brecon Beacons. Share the sports around the UK. There are plenty of suitable locations outside London. I mean, Beach Volleyball at Buckingham Palace....
Fixing the Jag 4:50pm on 18 Dec 2008 I'd love to know what Tatas real motives are. The Taj Hotel that was the scene of the recent tragedy was built with a sign hanging from it stating 'No Dogs or Englishmen' in retaliation to anti Indian signs at British Hotels. Now they're buying up symbols of Britain in Tetley Tea, British Steel (Corus) and Jaguar LandRover. They've promised both Corus and Jaguar LandRover huge investment just a few months ago but are now going to the government for handouts for both businesses...
Tata have cut production at Corus and JLR citing the global credit crunch but haven't touched Tata Steel India or Tata Motors. I also haven't heard of them going to the Indian government for handouts yet either...
The end of the sad lads and the bad WAGs 4:27pm on 17 Oct 2008 Excellent article but to be fair, you'd expect England to beat each of those four teams they've played. If they play, for instance, Germany or Russia in the finals and lose would Capello still be such a hero? England are lucky the seeding system for qualifiers is in place -some of us aren't so fortunate and have to meet the stronger teams rather earlier!
Let the great G.O.A.T debate commence! 12:33pm on 17 Aug 2008 Untill they have 'special' races to allow you to run backwards, legs together and legs wide apart as well as the traditional fastest style - and all the relay combinations, a swimmer is always going to receive more medals than a track athlete. 96 gold medals available for one sport is just a joke. The same goes really for weightlifters etc who can compete at different weight levels. The olympics should simply be about who is the fastest, strongest, goes furthest or has best technique in a sport. Full stop. Otherwise give me my gold medal for being the fastest 73kg, 5'10", 28yr old between here and my coffee in a hopping race starting in the next 5 minutes!
