Why men are to blame for the crunch 7:47pm on 29 Jul 2009 Mr Peston. You have long been an oracle on all matters financial. You, like the bankers you have been so willing to critisize have just fallen from a great height. You know very little in terms of actual poicy making and the people who make the decisions that affect us all.Women were as implicit as men in desire for greater market share of everything. Perhaps in the majority of cases, men "carried the can" for any failure so you have accordingly pointed the finger in their direction . Women have been afforded massive legislative assistance in the last 20 years and accroding to the most recent polls are happy with their present standing in society. Attacking the role of men will not win you any brownie points with women- quite the reverse. My experience is that women want to fight their own corner without the assistance of self-appointed do-gooders like you. You are off-limits in this discussion which is not your territory and you have made judgements without appreciating the full picture.
Can we do without men? 7:05pm on 09 Jul 2009 Imagine if this argument were turned on its head and the continued existence of women was questioned. THe phone lines would be at breaking point, the internet mail servers would be crashing and women's lobby groups would be preparing a march in central London. This was seriously sick journalism.

Property management fees 7:56pm on 20 Apr 2009 As a Chartered Surveyor I am disappointed that your programme chose to consult with ARMA. All the worst agents subscribe to ARMA. It is meaningless and agents only join to satisfy public opionion. MOre regulation is pointless . What is required however is the bar raising in terms of standards. Chartered Surveyors are invariably a better option and can easily be held accountable for negligence. There are a plethora of organisations which all purport to offer an accountable service . They do not. Look for Chartered organsiations. They have stringent standards.
That bloomin' pension again 4:28pm on 03 Apr 2009 As a peripheral player in the finance industry, it was clear to me that RBS and Goodwin could have stopped their acquisition spree after Nat West and he and RBS would have been hailed as one the great success stories of the last decade. However the epithet now reads: "Never in the field of commercial history has so much been owed to so many by so few".
HBOS: Strong men will weep 6:25pm on 01 Mar 2009 I watched the TReasury Select Commitee on BBC PArliament recently and Mervyn King suggested that in many cases (including HBOS) it would take "many months" to discover the full liability and audit of bank's balence sheets. We have not even begun to hear the worst. It is not even the "end of the beginning"
Your stories of unemployment 5:47pm on 14 Jan 2009 I graduated from university in 1977 in surveying. I was made redundant in 1978 and was unemployed for 20 years until 1998. I have been successfully self employed for 10 years but am now looking at the prospect of being without work and income. I have nothing but contempt for those who think the world owes them a living.

Instructed not to arrest? 08:35am on 30 Aug 2008 I do not work for the Police however as a community minded citizen I have become very aware of the escalation of "anti social behaviour" which manifests itself in the form of gangs congregating on a local high street and threatening passers by allied to more extreme acts of vandalism, commonly smashing shop windows at random and spraying graffiti at will. Until a few months ago community support officers regularly patrolled these streets and train stations. Not any more. Reporting offences of the kind mentioned above seems to have been treated without any urgency whatsoever.
