Is not this calamitous behaviour symptomatic of a culture that's lost pride in anything above youtube smarties, and throwing up on weekends? Is there not something more to being Scottish than being able to hold your pint? Where is the pride in having got a lot of things right, when 2 serious sportsmen flush it all down the toilet for a cheap laugh?
What HAVE WE DONE with our self respect, when 2 idiots can somehow sum up the underlying values of Scottish culture?

The Mormon backlash 1:08pm on 23 Nov 2008 I've known many mormons, and particularly the two different flavours; Utah and Texas. While I can say without a shadow of a doubt, they are kind generous and upright people, I am unable to recognise their religion as Christian. Even underpinned by traditional Christian values, their whole theology about becoming "Gods" of planets populated by their progeniture makes me feel like I've just read the most extraordinary science fiction of all time. The "Christian or Jewish Bible" has NEVER taught this. Nor the amazing golden plates Joseph Smith found, written in "Old Egyptian", which mysteriously were never authenticated, and have never been found.
As for baptisms for the dead, regularly practiced in Salt Lake City (by proxy), this involved an occult process expressly forbidden in the Bible, see 2 Samuel.
Kind beautiful people, misled and lied to by their church.

Payday mayday at Hearts 5:22pm on 25 Sep 2008 You're right. The thing that worries me is that generalised fantasy football as practised in ENGLAND: Liverpool wth thon rasor boy in particular, Man City with the sheikh, and what will happen to Chelsea when Romanov gets bored?

Hearts have been playing fantasy football for a few years now, without developing a business model anything like Arsenal or Man United; where the fans still count.
Graphic images 10:52pm on 24 Sep 2008 I fear that we're confusing news with some kind of voyeuristic sensationalism. On this issue, the BBC was right, but constraint on other items (video footage of bomb victims in Ireland Iraq Pakistain or Israel, the televised "surgical strikes" in Iraq), would be good too.

You guys need to not follow the brylcreem ABC journalist interviewing someone and asking "so now you're legs are history, how do you see your future?"

These images only serve to polarise even more people (who to say the least) have different viewpoints. Sometimes the BBC, confuses news with the events, and ends up neglecting the undepinning realities.

Looks to me like Vegas is the ultimate American Dream, get rich on a whim; just get rich. Go play a coin machine.

It's the ultimate "kitch city", and somewhere is a limpid illustration of how at least the western americans I know see themselves; life a mixture of hard work and chance - most of them still believe in the "chance" bit.

Looking forward to your Phoenix blog. One request; try to check out the Arizona Biltmore. There you have the lush confident architecture of the American 20's, and the richest of the rich, it's Scottsdale, but really north Phoenix... GO SEE ITS WORTH THE TINY DETOUR.
