Thursday, 4 December, 2008 7:53pm on 04 Dec 2008 Again we hear of interest cuts and Banks (those that took the tax payers cash) helping home owners by delaying their massive debts. I am not an economist, (thank goodness) but it seems to me that the government would have been more helpful, if they had paid of the interest on home owners mortgages, instead of funnelling it down a financial drain via the very people who caused the problem by burying their heads in some very mucky sand. I would love some clever person to do the maths and let me know how much that would have cost. By the way, what is wrong with council housing? If they are good enough to buy they should be good enough for local authorities to keep as low rent accommodation.

From mega supermarket hype.

If the government are serious about this budget they have gone beyond George Orwell and started on Lewis Carrol. Am I really stupid, or is the raising of National Insurance and tax on fuel merely canceling out any meagre benefits from the other smoke and mirrors measures? The financial sector caused the problem let 'THEM' pay to fix it!

I work in what used to be called the caring profession. Although I admit that tragedies such as this and the one in Manchester today should not happen, the blame lays squarely with the politicians and civil servants (National and especially local) that instigate policies that remove the caring aspect of the job description. It is my experience, over forty years, that managers, in recent years, at higher levels have little respect for the concerns of their employees on contentious issues.

I have personally experienced many occasions of being ignored when reporting suspected abuse of vulnerable service users. On the other hand public sector staff are constantly being disciplined for the most trivial of matters whenever an allegation is made against them.

It is very easy to apportion blame to field workers but they are working under such restrictions and bureaucracy (often without adequate training) that they often feel as though they are the culprits. They are wrong if they do and wrong if they don't.
Any one remember Cleveland?

I will probably get another disciplinary for writing this.

Thursday, 30 October, 2008 6:28pm on 30 Oct 2008 Unless the radio 2 controller was responsible for the offensive broadcast being approved, shouldn't it be the actual person who sanctioned it? All day I have been hearing and reading comments that speak of a divers BBC audience. That does not excuse the crass element in comedy that prevails on "popular" programming. The BBC should be a bench mark for other broadcasters and stop playing audience catch up. Of course comedy should innovative but not downright offensive. These people are only heroic when they think they can get away it. I have not heard Mr Ross or Mr Brand making comments about sensitive groups in society that possess firearms.

Has American culture changed under George W Bush? 1:52pm on 30 Oct 2008 I think that, on the surface, America has become more insular and prone towards religious fundamentalism. Having said that it obvious that there are a significant number of intelligent Americans with more liberal, views that did not vote for Mr Bush in either election (even the one he actually won). As a world power, I think that the Americans perceived culture mindset, has turned many non Americans off the idea of America being the policeman of the world and many Americans are conscious of the affects that the Iraq war has had on their standing as honest brokers of peace.

There is no real real artistic image that sums up for me the present 'state of the union', unless something emerges from the dreadful financial state that American economic policy has caused.

In a nut shell I am worried that the Americans perception of themselves has been seriously damaged by Mr Bush and may cause a move backwards toward the Apple Pie and Jesus frontier spirit that most people have been fooled into believing what Americans are really about. They are just human beings after all, aren't they?

Friday, 17th October, 2008 6:58pm on 17 Oct 2008 Today I heard Mr Cameroon say that he would not forget that it was Gondor (son of give em more) Browns economic policies that caused the Credit Crunch. I agree that Tory Blair and Gondor have failed the British public by continuing with Thatchers deregulation of everything. I hope Cameroon has not forgotten that episode.
Oh I do wish those boy's would play nice.
