Carl Baker and Stockport - an example to us all 10:11pm on 14 Sep 2009 Stockport are a great club, I remember when they were relegated at Selhurst Park several years ago now, and the away fans started a 100+ person conga and just decided they'd enjoy the day out rather than wallow in self pity. It's very difficult to hear about young people 'moving on' of course, I hope Carl's brother, Carl himself & all at Stockport remain in good health.

If the banks are not lending the money out now so they can reduce their loans/savings ration, I'd imagine the same banks (in pursuit of the aged old performance bonusses and pressure from shareholders) wil quite happily increase this ration again once we're out of a recession as they'll be a lot more confident in lending funds out.

So if they do this, will we not then be flooded by cheap credit again as banks try to gain the share of the market during the healthier times?

I cant imagine banks will act prudent when the market picks up, they still have targets to reach and will be willing to take on a bit more risk when the economy is getting back to full health. We could just be going round in circles here with the even worse scenario of so much capital being made available it could be quite inflationary. All this money will come out in the wash somewhere.

Chris Moyles on The One Show 5:40pm on 24 Feb 2009 Making comparisons to the Armenian Massacre and Hitler is not effective debating. You're making hyperbolic comparisons which generally negate any point you're trying to put across and convey an immature attitude.

It's a nice trolling run though, is this a new record for you or have you managed to troll an internet messageboard for longer previously? I have to congratulate you on your perseverence, some would think that you're unemployed and have notihng more productive to do going by the number of comments you've been able to make.

Personally I am of the opinion that you are somewhat lacking in social skills and come on here to try and draw attention to yourself as a perverse form of self gratification. If you need some help there's plenty of resources around the web or there's BBC's One Life pages. I'm sure there is a way you can turn the corner. Just make the first few steps! Good luck!

Chris Moyles on The One Show 10:39am on 24 Feb 2009 Leave Adrian Chiles out of this as well! The One Show is too tightly scripted to allow individuals to shine. He's quite funny on MOTD and on various appearances where he's allowed to express himself.

To be honest I think the whole problem with AC/CM etc on the One Show is that they do not allow time for any proper banter between the guests & hosts - probably because normally the guests are dull. Give the presenters some room to breath and put their personalities across a bit more (and same for the guests) and it would be more entertaining. At present it reads like a mafazine show with very short links between pieces and scripted questions to 'experts'. Where's the fun? It tries to be light hearted but isn't. I guess that's why its audience is so serious.

Listen to Radio 1 where CM has a free reign pretty much, and could spend 10-15 minutes (30 minutes when opening this morning!) chatting and creating a bit of banter within the crew, it's a lot more fun than the One Show will ever be.

So you can join in on the discussion? Are you one of those 10000-odd people that didnt hear JR and RB but then decided to complain anyway so you could be part of the PC crowd? Why bother listening if you're not a fan!?

I like Chris Moyles, he has a lot more character than most DJs and I think this is why his show's popular. It is slightly egotistical at times but still, it's more entertaining than anything else. Also he has mellowed out more these days than he used to be when he first started.

He did come across like a 'rabbit in headlights' slightly last night but some of the comments above do make me worry how high some people's blood pressure gets over the smallest incidents. Maybe the One Show should do some pieces on Anger Management or treatment for stomach ulcers to help some of you out!
Bonus buck stops with Brown 12:26pm on 08 Feb 2009 All those stating that the bonus is part of 'normal renumeration' - it's called a BONUS for a reason! People should never fund their lifestyles on the expectation that bonuses will be paid as circumstances beyond their control can often mean it wont be!
Bonus buck stops with Brown 2:28pm on 06 Feb 2009 As a worker in the Automotive industry, I'm currently on a consultation period for redundancy. I accept quite easily that because of the actions of people in the financial markets, my company is going to be affected. It would be foolish to try and think that you should be totally immune.

My own company also had a departmentalised profit basis - ie if your division is making a profit then that's all that matters. Our division was very profitable until this year. Personally speaking, I reached more than double my target and was on course to exceed again this year and yet here I am looking at being out of work.

Prior to redundancies, we had a pay freeze. Again this was uncontested, people are willing to accept that through no fault of our own we are now in a company which would be foolish to pay out extra in the current climate.

So, regardless of how unfair some RBS employees may feel it is, they should accept that EVERYONE is affected by this downturn and will take some financial hits as a consequence, despite it not being 99% of the population's fault. If companies gave employees what we all deserved, then a lot more companies would be going to the wall a lot quicker.
Insurance that worsens crunch 5:58pm on 12 Jan 2009 Interesting topic. My employer cannot get trade insurance. If it were not for the fact that the european parent company underwrites these risks itself (I wonder if they use a similar figure for risk analysis?) then our UK operations would not be continuing, something that would have a fairly sized detrimental effect to the local economy (and sub suppliers of course).

I would imagine there are others just like us. It would be interesting to wonder if the companies underwriting this risk such as mine, are now reassessing the risks involved. I can imagine in some cases the sums being quite substantial, although thankfully the weakened pound could play in our favour.
