Fewer votes for BNP 5:14pm on 09 Jun 2009 I would like to respond to one point DailyMaillington raised if i may.

The claim is made that the BNP is a "far left" party. Funny that, some chap wearing a tory rosette who'd come to the Torfaen Count to bulk up the tory numbers said exactly the same thing. Pity neither of you seem to have researched what you said. Take a look at the "Politcal Compass" website for the evidence. The BNP are only slightly left of centre on their left-right divide, the greens are now where labour was under michael foot, and labour today is almost as fascist as the conservatives, and labour is far more right wing than ted heat's government of one nation conservatism. I giess you need to be 52 years old, as I am, to put all that in context though.
Fewer votes for BNP 5:08pm on 09 Jun 2009 I was a counting agent at one of the local centres feeding results to the regional headquarters in haverfordwest.

The looks on the faces of the conservative party when they realised how many people in that area / constituency had voted BNP said it all.

Once upon a time there was a "Welsh Office". I know because my wife worked in it. Then there was a Welsh Assembly Government and a hot air pit in Cardiff Bay with a leaky roof, built at how much expense was it now ? And now, they want to refurbish and return to the building they abandoned.

It's madness. But then again so is chucking millions down the drain at the "Millennium Centre" and the "national Botanical Garden"

Did you know the DVLA put out a "consultation document" asking us "in what way we prefer to be charged more to keep their staff in work now they've got SO much less to do because we're not buying as many cars".

It's NOT a joke. Because so few people are buying cars the DVLA has lots less to do so they have to raise their fees to keep their "revenue neutral" status.

Why don't the civil servants get given a P45 when the workload drops ? That's what Barclays Bank did to me just before christmas ....."
i-Give 1:50pm on 21 Dec 2008 The simple fact is, when I ran my own company before New Labour sent it to the wall, had *I* I tried to get one of these devices as a business expense the taxman would have disallowed it, and then douybled the unpaid tax and slapped a penal interest rate on me on top.

Mind you, I can't have five thousand pounds worth of work done on my bathroom for free either.....
Free speech, huge bills? 06:15am on 23 Sep 2008 The 'give up now and we waive the costs' gambit is hardly new, is it.

This is, after all, the standard approach aken by the taxman for a start when they see somethinf they dislike, but where they forgot to write the law properly. Ask any small businssman who has been around for more than a year or so.

Archery enters the eye of the storm 9:10pm on 10 Aug 2008 I'd just like to say I found the style of reporting a welcome change from deadpan delivery of facts that has all the excitement and emotion of the "teleprinter football results" that used to bore me to tears at the end of "Grandstand" while I was waiting for Doctor Who to come on.

Ok MAYBE a couple of lines at the top pointing out that should we ever find ourselves in need of a rematch of Crecy and Agincourt we might possibly be in a spot of bother would have done the trick, but as someone who was bored with the whole olympics business ten minutes after a bunch of chinese secret policemen were allowed to tell our people what to do in the London Torch procession, I would like to thank Tom Fordyce for re-igniting my interest at least for a while.
Captain Devo 07:26am on 15 Jun 2008 At last someone has noticed that the two most frequent words that end the first sentence of a news item on education, health or heaven knows what else on BBC Radio 4 News, "Today" or "PM" are .... "in England". Presumably because they assume "BBC Wales" covers anything political west of offa's dyke so they don't need to.
Update on MPs expenses and the High Court 08:36am on 19 May 2008 This seems little different to the level of detail I had to provide to the tax man before the labour party killed off my own small business.

In defence of MP's expenses I would like to point out one or two of them coming on to TV and Radio to say that when they had their second homes bathroom's renovated, they ended up with the bill for 'betterment'.

But Members of Parliament have only themselves to blame for the demands for openness. because for years they have clearly enjoyed a level of gravy train riding not available to the rest of us. Did you know for example that until recently "parliamentarians" had free parking at heathrow airport ? I didn't, until the bbc news website revealed the scheme, which had operated for some time, was being stopped.

It's things like this, the stuff we DONT know about, that needs to see the light of day.
