But as you say the point still stands that its a shame when someone does something so positive and you get someone trying to focus on a negative. Really does illustrate the point perfectly that you can't please everyone.

Have a look at the list of 15 and you'll see Lizzie Simmonds name on there so I would guess that the Paralympic team have equal opportunity here. Sorry I do understand they don't get as much press and that really is a shame. But here's a guy trying to do some good and it's also a shame that one of the first posts appears to be trying to have a little dig. Sorry if that's not what you meant but that's the way it's come across to me. Why not try to focus on the positives of the story as there's a lot of positives to come from it? It's not this guy's fault that the Paralympic team don't get the amount of coverage they should do.

Anyway great story Ollie and thanks for highlighting it for us. It's always good to read about someone trying to help out in this way. These athletes could be the role models of the future for many more young people who want to get involved in sport.
Haye does what he has to do 6:24pm on 08 Nov 2009 Exactly alexjknight, the guy talks so much rubbish its untrue. Why is Khan fighting at light-welterweight now instead of lightweight? Oh because the lightweight division is too strong for him. Just because a guy has succeeded without him he has to try and rubbish the achievement. Sour grapes because somewhere down the line Haye probably rejected him.

Would be a bit more interesting though if you actually wanted to have a debate instead of trying to proclaim to anyone who'll listen that your opinion's right and should be treated as fact. How about taking your head out of the sand and try to actually take on board what other people are saying. Fair enough you may think your correct but just because you think it doesn't mean it is so. Oh and calling me a sad little man and nobby, hilarious, have fun back at school tomorrow, make sure you pay a bit more attention in English though.

If you read Ben's list of the British Heavyweight champions he mentions Hide and Akinwande in the footnotes but as he points out they held the least regarded title out there so in some people's eyes aren't considered true heavyweight champions. More like token champions. As for calling Ben lazy how about using some proper punctuation, maybe a full stop or 2 and some capitals, or in your secnd post some lower case. Actually you have given me a laugh calling someone lazy and then posting something as bad as that! Anyway lecture over.
Haye does what he has to do 1:36pm on 08 Nov 2009 Shock horror Frank Warren's trying to belittle someone's achievements now because they managed to win a title without him helping them!

Great win by Haye, wasn't the most exciting fight but then it was never going to be. I was still concerned at the end that he hadn't done enough to win it over there even though the only punches landing were coming from Haye. But credit to him he stuck to his plan the whole way through, executed it splendidly and now hopefully people can start getting interested in the Heavyweight division again. Finally there's a champion who likes to do more than just jab for 12 rounds!
Haye just playing the game 10:16am on 06 Nov 2009 I have to disagree with #38. I think the reason the division's dead is because the leading protagonists are boring as hell! If they can then the Klitschko's will jab for 12 rounds and do nothing else. I do understand where they're coming from, why take a risk when you can win that way? But a little more showmanship would make them and their fights so much more interesting and would give them a lot more credit.

And outside the ring its the same. They come across as nice guys which is a great thing from a humanitarian point of view. But it doesn't get people interested in watching their fights sadly. People like watching a good guy vs a bad guy, or 2 fighters who act like they really want to tear each other apart when they get in the ring. It gets people interested because they don't know what's going to happen when these 2 guys finally get together.

Great points on the Ali stuff as well Ben. As you say definitely rose-tinted specs from Mr Cooper. I can remember reading about the torture that Ali handed out to Ernie Terrell because he kept calling him Clay. Refused to finish the job and just kept beating him and shouting at him to call him by his proper name. Compared to that Haye's antics have been small-fry, but at least he's trying something to build up the excitement levels.

I'm sure anyone who's willing to step in the ring and risk getting a pounding wants to at least make as much money as he can from it. The fact is the hype builds up interest and generates more money. Dirs has it spot on when he says look at Hatton and Calzaghe. One fought on terrestrial tele a hell of a lot and one didn't at all. Who had the biggest fights and the most acclaim? Hatton by far. Its the same when people talk about Ali. Was he the biggest star? Absolutely. But was he actually the best boxer? Well that's a lot more debatable.

OK I see people's point that the Klitschko's and Valuev come across nicely and respectful. That's good but that's not what generates interest in a fight. People want to think the 2 guys are really going to go at it when they get in the ring and really don't like each other. That's what makes people want to watch and that's all Haye's doing. If he saw this guy in the street or met him outside of he boxing world he wouldn't be saying all these things. But being outlandish and outspoken makes headlines and gets people talking about a fight and that brings in the money.

Coming out with some of the things Haye has in the build up isn't what you want people to be like all the time but good God its what the heavyweight division needs! Excitement, anticipation, drama, that's what build ups to big fights should be like and we haven't had that in the heavyweight division since Lewis.
Holyfield shows Haye the way 12:42pm on 03 Nov 2009 I know this fight's going to be boring as anything but I still can't wait! I'm going all out for a Haye KO. He just has to win, if he doesn't then interest in the heavyweight division is going to wane even more.

I can understand why people don't like Haye, he talks a lot of rubbish a lot of the time. But to be honest I'd rather see that than see two guys talking about mutual respect and how much they admire each other before a fight. Its pretty simple, animosity beforehand creates interest in a fight which then creates more money.

At least he's trying to do something though, I haven't been able to find one comment relating to Valuev in the build up to this. Its as if the guy's only in boxing because he's built for it not because he actually cares about it at all. Chances are I'm wrong there but he does nothing to create interest in a fight and get the public licking their lips in anticipation.

As much as I enjoy boxing, if Haye doesn't win on Saturday night I don't think I'll be watching heavyweight boxing for a while. As much as a fighter needs a good jab, there's nothing worse than seeing a guy do nothing but jab for 10-12 rounds like we constantly get with the Klitschko's and Valuev. If something isn't entertaining and engaging people won't want to tune in and those guys are neither.
Priced out of Olympic sport? 2:17pm on 20 Oct 2009 Well said Ollie, the focus should be on getting as many people interested in these sports as possible before 2012. As usual though the emphasis is on making as much money as possible. My girlfriend and some friends went on Friday evening to watch the action and they could only afford the cheap seats. They certainly weren't impressed. They could see what was happening although not that clearly but what made it worse was that as there are flags hanging all round the hall they couldn't see the TV screens to see the replays of what had happened.

Its just sad to see an event that could do with as much interest and coverage as it can get screw it up by trying to rip people off.
