There is no such thing as compulsary state education in the UK. If there was then home education and private schooling would be illegal. It is only education that is compulsary, not state education.
Home schooling... 8:24pm on 28 Feb 2009 I was home educated. I finished at 17 with no GCSE's. I went to work in a shop.
Within 4 years I was manager of a shop. 3 years later I was offered area management only I could not do the job. Not due to lack of education but due to not being able to drive because of medical reasons.
I run my own business, I live in a council house, I home educate 4 children. One of my children is aspergers, try telling him a complete stranger wants to either take him to one side and talk to him alone or send him to school.
Send my children to a place where pupisl have to have metal detector searches and sniffer dogs, CCTV in toilets...I don't think so!
Home schooling... 4:49pm on 27 Feb 2009 I put my daughter into school where she was bullied by a teacher becasue she was "too clever and should learn to shut up, no-one like a bright brat" THAT was in front of her, other pupils and other parents.

I don't apologise for home educating my 4 children, I have no reason to apologise. I was home educated, I run my own business AND we live in a council house (shock horror).
I personally don't mind if my children get a first class honours degree or want to spend their lives as street sweepers.
One thing is for definate, there is absolutely NO WAY they will attend an enforced learning institution. We would rather sell up, buy an old bus and become travellers!
The benefits of tough love 4:37pm on 12 Dec 2008 As what is commonly called a "scrounger" or "parasite" I work 24/7 as a carer for my severely disabled husband, carer for my epileptic daughter and mother to my 3 other children. Plus I am also disabled.

Despite this, should I claim income support, I too would have to attend "work focused" interviews and would probably end up in JSA as it is only "some" carers that will be exempt. As informed by one job centre employee.."In case your disabled family members drop dead" (nice!)
£55 a week for being a carer to two (plus child tax credits plus HB/CTB andchild benefitwill not clain IS again). Even that got suspended on Monday yet they have no idea why and I have to wait 4 weeks for them to sort it.

BBC licence free: name that figure 12:01pm on 27 Nov 2008 If the BBC was to go commercial I will throw away the TV. I would pay up to £250 per year purely for the news, costume dramas, classic dramas, Dr. Who and Torchwood alone. Then there is Top Gear, Mock the Week, Have I got news for you, Never mind the buzzcocks, Gavin and Stacey, Outnumbered, Coal House (BBC Wales) and the new series Wallender which I am looking forward to. We very rarely watch commercial channels.

Do prescription charges make us sick? 9:38pm on 04 Oct 2008 My husband is on co-codomol, prescribed by the GP. If he had to pay over the counter for these he would be at the chemists every other week (which would be a 20 mile round trip). The doctor can prescribe amounts that you just cannot buy them in without visiting 4 or 5 different pharmacists. This way he uses the Dr. less and doesn't have to go out all the time which is hazardous to his health.
