Leeks and all 5:13pm on 03 Nov 2008 I think the badge is great. It has the Crown on it as it is for use on Measures once the Queen has signed them into law. For as long as we are a Kingdom the Crown is appropriate. It has the long established Royal badge of Wales. It has symbols of other parts of the UK (the Scottish Arms show the English lion, the English Arms show the Scottish Unicorn, it is not just Wales that is inclusive on its Royal symbols). It has a historic motto taken from the Welsh national anthem. It was drawn up by the world's most respected heraldic body the College of Arms and it was approved by Queen Elizabeth II who has approved the arms of more countries than anyone else in history due to the independence of almost 50 countries as the British Empire ended during her reign.
For those contributors who say things against it on the grounds that it does not match their wish for a republican Wales they are making the mistake of imposing their views on the majority, who are consistently monarchist in every opinion poll taken since WWII. They also undermine their arguments for democracy by refusing to acknowledge that the majority's views are no less valid or Welsh than their own.
Cameron's economic problem 09:50am on 20 Oct 2008 I am a true floating voter, I have voted Labour twice and Conservative once since I became eligable. I rely on the BBC mainly for information on which to form my views. I am a little disturbed lately by your tone, it does not seem objective. Yesterday Radio 4 said 'conservatives now only have a 9 point lead over labour.' The words used turned a clear Tory lead into somehow a bad thing and made Labour look better than they are doing. Is this deliberate bias in how the news is presented or is it unconscious? I am also annoyed by the spin over the Tory/Labour truce. On question time and any questions it was clear that whilst the Tories may have had a truce, Labour did not. Apparently Labour are the cause of all the good things like schools and hospitals but the last conservative government was the cause of the bad new now. The BBC presenters let the Labour people get away with this and even let them then accuse the Tories of being party political.
A very big rescue 08:02am on 08 Oct 2008 Your reports on Radio 4 yesterday were more like you crowing about the effect your news has on the stock market than any intelligent analysis of the current crisis. If your reports make things worse, which you said happened yesterday, how can you justify them? The BBC and other media are meant to report what is happening so the public are informed not go out of its way to get scoops and to ruin sensitive negotiations to the point where the stock market upon which we all rely for pensions is harmed. Rein in your ego please and start actually reporting.
Map of the week: Global wealth 7:36pm on 29 Sep 2008 Most of the comments on here and the original article would do badly in an A Level Geography exam. You are interpreting the maps to show the UK getting less wealthy. They do not show that at all, rather they show that whilst our wealth has gone up, so over time has others so that the relative wealth of the UK has changed over time. But, for each map 1 - 5 we are wealthier. Some comments are surprised that the arab states are so small. It is a modern urban myth that the UK is poor now and that the Arabs and Chinese are richer. Not by a long shot. Our per capita wealth is in the top 20 and our cumulative wealth is massive, as big as the 1 billion Chinese.
Sceptical of knife epidemic 11:45am on 11 Jul 2008 You have confused me with reference to England, UK, Britain and then seperate Scottish and Northern Irish figures. I think you were saying the figures were for England and that Scotland and Northern Ireland were different. What happened to Wales and why did you mention the UK and Britain?
Anthem results 11:42am on 11 Jul 2008 I think you miss the point about a National Anthem. It is not meant to be a modern, PC song that people actually like. About two countries in the world have actually good tunes (France and South Africa) and no country has good lyrics with the majority being old fashioned, religious and about military struggle. The huge plus in favour for GSTQ is that it is known around the world and almost everyone can manage to hum it. It also represents a long tradition. The huge negative for GSTQ is that it is both the British and English anthem. It cant be both as at the moment good Welsh men like me are insulted everytime an English team sings our own British anthem at us before a rugby or football match. The simplest solution would be for England to use a diferent anthem when it plays Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. I would choose Jerusalem or Land of Hope and Glory. However we would never get a decision on this through politicians. The Queen should just announce it and take no prisoners.
UK news coverage 9:51pm on 11 Jun 2008 BBC news is great apart from one thing. You keep saying 'the health secretary' 'the education secretary' 'the cheif inspector of schools' all of whom are only in that role for England not the UK but listening to your news it sounds like they are whole UK roles. This is very confusing for the three non English nations being broadcasted to.
The Glass Box for Wednesday 6:29pm on 05 Mar 2008 I was wondering why no report on the Prince of Wales' visit to the Caribbean? Many thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people in the UK originated in Trinidad, where he is today, and this would be about the only time they would expect to hear about their country of origin. How is it doing, is it developing etc etc. I particularly hope you report on it when he gets to Montserrat where 10,000 British citizens are trying to rebuild after the 1990s volcano.
