EU 'big' brought to heel 3:37pm on 02 Mar 2009 Face it - France will look after the French.

They always have and always will. They will isuue the usual platitudes and get right back to looking after their own.

On one hand it is really infuriating, but on the other admirable.

Pity we do not have a UK government looking after its own people.

Smacks of desperation by the current administration to hold on to power at all costs - Throw other people's money at it and cross your fingers.

Gordon in limbo 2:00pm on 12 Sep 2008 Sad state of affairs for the country in that all Labour Mps can do is choose between oblivion, or a good 18 month troughing followed by oblivion.

many times the similarities between the Berlin bunker in '45 and Downing street '08 have been pointed out, but for a different take on it, try googling gordon Brown's downfall - the prequel.

If nothing else it will cheer you up until the next bill hits the mat.

Using the "have to cut spending on blah, blah" is a lame excuse that political pundits should be hammering ALL parties on.

Non-drivers enjoy a massive subsidy courtesy of the motorist, but I have not yet heard any party pointing out that ALL taxes will have to rise to cover the inevitable revenue loss. You cannot tax motorists under the guise of "pollution" and then tax becuase there is no "pollution".
Cherie speaks for herself 1:29pm on 16 Jul 2008 With everyone watching MPs expenses, do you really think that the government is going to release a report - or even admit to there being a report - detailing how much public money has been spent buying clothes for someone whose only connection to government is her husband?

On the question as to whether he was dithering on the question of expenses, he is not sure but he will come back with answer later....sometime.
The expenses dilemma 11:25am on 03 Jul 2008 Not much grappling really - BIG money will be awarded for 2 reasons.

1. Quite a few MPs are going to get turfed out at the next election, so a good long final suck at the tit of Public Money is sorely needed until the money from books/speeches/consultancies etc starts to roll in.

2. Meanwhile a similar number of incoming MPs will have to be rewarded for the years of holding the torch aloft for their respective parties, and what better reward than a good long suck at the same Public Money tit?

Meanwhile the rest of us will be left sucking a hind tit in the form of ever rising taxes to pay for it all - safe in the knowledge that its all to help the environment and ensure UK's place at the heart of Europe etc etc.
Spend less or tax more? 12:29pm on 02 Jul 2008 Well an easy way to raise a few bob without hurting anyone is to scrap the BBC.

By ending the licence fee you will put £140 quid into every homeowner's pocket (at least those honest enough to pay a licence fee), flogging off the publicly owned assets currently held by the BBC will raise a few £Billion to fill brown holes in the economy (or waste on windmills, consultants, whatever), and as a big eco-headline the government could announce the abolition of one of the country's largest electricity uses.

How often does a government get such an easy opportunity to raise extra revenue without hurtung the general public?

Goodness knows that since there are more licence -payers than BBC employees, there might even be a few votes in it.
