Brown's cautious bank reforms 10:55am on 22 Feb 2009 There is a lot of talk of getting back to banking basics but this appears to be impossible at the moment.

Simplisticly Sensible Bank borrows from it's customers at 5%, lends at 10% and keeps a liquid margin of 20% to cover withdrawals. Everyone is happy.

But Sensible Bank can't do this any more as interest rates are virtually zero. So Sensible Bank can't borrow and therefore can't lend unless it gets its money from the international markets - impossible, or government.

If banks were able to borrow and lend sensibly again, paying investors a reasonable rate of interest, wouldn't this provide urgently needed funding for industry as well as an income on pensioners savings?
BBC and the Gaza appeal 11:37am on 25 Jan 2009 Does the BBC really think that its audience cannot distinguish between a humanitarian appeal for suffering people and a propaganda film for one side or the other in this conflict? Trust your audience and help to save some lives otherwise we will stop trusting you.
Insane markets and HBOS 9:19pm on 01 Oct 2008 There has been a lot of discussion about protection for consumers but what about businesses? HBOS has many business accounts and a huge number of companies could close if HBOS fails.
