Back from the brink - Southampton think big 09:16am on 01 Oct 2009 Fair point made earlier about Lowe and St Mary's - I remember the day after we won the FA Cup being outside the Civic Centre and all the talk from Southampton's Mayor was about a new ground and nothing happened for the next 25 years!

As for extending the capacity of St Marys, I believe the original designs included a scaleability factor so it may not be a technical issue, just a logistical/financial one.

And I still think Nicola Cortese has a look of the Mafia Don about him - useful in the dog eat dog world of English football

I don't think you could call that a cartel in any shape or form. It would just be providers using a central marketing portal to sell their previously free content, and content that no-one, apparently, is interested in.

Of course, when Sky came along, people throught it ludicrous that they would make any money charging for TV subscriptions, but look where they are now. Don't underestimate the business acumen of Murdoch as I think it is slightly sharper than most contributors to this blog.
What was HBOS doing? 07:49am on 06 Aug 2009 Not strictly on topic, but love the spin the online BBC is putting on the Institute of Chartered Surveyors report today. Even Today reported this positively - somewhat grudgingly mind.

Here however, the headline quote picked up is " 'no quick return' to housing boom".
