I am sure there are plenty up of and coming younger senior managers who will gratefully step into their shoes and made a damn good job of turning RBS around.
Why's Gordon smiling? 12:50pm on 03 Dec 2009 Gordon Brown will stop smiling ,when he realises that with help from Alistair Campbell he was suckered into making a twit of himself.
I also think he lost the plot calling the likes of William Hague,Kenneth Clark,Eric Pickles and the likes "Toffs" on the basis of the school their leader went to.

The party of the poor 1:46pm on 10 Nov 2009 I am still struggling to find a political definition of "poor" and where do I go to see all the poor people.
As far as I see the really "poor" people living in the UK are the old age pensioners who have to live on a pitance while the supposed poor live very comfortably in council estates living off state benefits.
Now if the political definition is the latter of these two categories I think it right that Government should look at the benefits system and the money saved should be distributed the the former so the OAP's can live a decent life instead of just scraping by.
Bank reform: The radical way 08:47am on 22 Oct 2009 We'll get more Huff and Puff from Messrs.Brown and Darling then the bankers will get paid their bonuses because actually there is nothing the Government can do about it,short of shooting a 90% tax on bonuses bill through Parliament.
What I would like to know though is-what special skills and competencies do these particular bankers have that make them so valuable to the banking system.
My understanding is that they are the same people who screwed it up last time

You are absolutely right.
IR35 was never designed to stop "fiddling" ,after all all those IT consultants working for a single company were simply adhering to the law of the time.(nothing illegal)
The problem of today is that the one man company simply have part time contracts with two or three companies and therefore now not able to be taxed at source as they are not covered by IR35 legislation.
This is the current ploy of thousands of highly paid management consultants and also the commentators on the TV who have several contracts with different radio and TV channels who avoid the legislation because they have multiple employers.
And much to the annoyance of the IR it is legal-so I guess they will need to come up with some new scatter brain idea to squeeze the money out of people earlier.

Once the Tories are in power they will get stuck into the pension differences there are between private sector and public sector workers.
First the retirement age will be adjusted (set at 66yrs.old) to reflect equality among all working people in the UK and then the public sector pension will depart from a final salary scheme to reflect the conditions those of us working in the private sector have to endure because our pension funds are broke.

At least there will be someone in the mix of armchair political soldier Ministers and faceless civil servants who seem to make all the decisions complimented by a soldier who actually knows what he's talking about.
Pressure for a UK vote 12:47pm on 06 Oct 2009 Cameron's current strategy on Europe is the right one.If the Poles and Czech's have not ratified the treaty by the time he get into Downing Street then he has an immediate referendum-that my intuition says he would win hansomely.
If it's all done and dusted and President Blair is in place a referendum in many ways is easier as the question will be "in" or "out" of the EU.
Mark my words,as soon as this referendum was declared,concessions by the bucket load would flow across from Brussel to persuade the British people to vote to stay in.
The reality is that the EU need us much more than we need them and think of the money saved by non contribution to the EU coffers.
