Fast food nation 1:14pm on 13 Oct 2008 Ye gods... do some of you Americans posting here really see yourselves as "liberators" and all-round good guys?

What part of "liberation" please was the use of chemical weapons against civilians of Fallujah about then please? Or the myriad of "trophy" videos that have spawned showing American soldiers thoroughly enjoying themselves whilst they massacre the people of Iraq.

I am haunted forever by the video I saw on Youtube, of a man fleeing with his toddling children, his hands in the air as he ran across a bypass, his kids screaming with fright.... then take in the rest of the picture, the US Marine turning his 50 caliblre onto them all and with a grin, a "woohoo" he blew him and the children to pieces and he with his cohorts were having a great time.

The world has suffered decades of American lies, propoganda, death and destruction, to me the image of America isn't the hamburger, to me it is the user, the taker, the thief, the murderer, the liar, the backstabber, that is what I see around the world...

The world has also suffered decades of American meddling, interference with the end results like the current global economical crisis, the constant threats of using nuclear weapons against Iran because Iran dared say "no"... because Israel sees Iran as a real threat to its own hegemony, the turning of a very blind eye to atrocities committed by Israel that are very similar to those committed by the US in Iraq, the Palestinians killed and robbed paid for by US tax dollars, killed by US bullets and guns.

I wake up every day and thank the stars that I ain't an American because one day... all them chickens are coming home to roost.

And America, consider this... those lovely little "liberators" who shoot up schools in Iraq and Afghanistan, who quite happily decimate unarmed men, women and children will one day be back in YOUR community... won't that be nice?
Map of the week: The mystery of the missing opium 6:35pm on 08 Oct 2008 I too am curious like CarpMX and very much reminded of Iran-Contra, Bush Snr being part of the CIA team that was tasked to bring Golden Triangle producers under control, very suspiscious indeed especially when this has happened before.

What adds fuel to this was a couple years ago if I remember rightly how a British Colonel went to the media because he was being given orders to turn a blind eye to convoys and it seems that because of this consternation that US seized command in this particular region and the Colonel sidelined.

These are all verifiable facts and not conspiracy theories, Iran-Contra happened, the CIA were caught peddling drugs to finance arming factions and it strikes me like a lot of people, including a great many in service too that production is through the ceiling which is not the usual result when one is fighting a war like its being fought in Afghanistan.

People are very sceptical now of American morality, when 9/11 happened the world was aghast yet some people were reminding those out there that in the 1960's America's chief's of staff had formulated a plan called "Operation Northwoods" which one aspect of was to fly a jetliner into an American landmark and blame it on Cuba, it is finding out of such things like Iran-Contra and Northwoods that lead people to doubt the very word of American governance because they plot and lie so very much.

Or perhaps this is a prelude for a reason to attack Pakistan, a justification for cross border raids that have been killing scores of innocent people by the Americans, its a coin-toss right now who is next in the US cross-hairs, Pakistan, Iran, Russia even, America is a very very unstable country right now and it would do anything to prevent anything like turning a blind eye to heroin production becoming a major issue.
Fannie, Freddie, Cheshire and Derbyshire 7:34pm on 07 Sep 2008 It was New Labour that finally put the neck our economy in the noose and those of us that have been predicting exactly what is happening now are somewhat vindicated to a degree.

Britain enjoyed for many generations a hybrid mix of socialism and capitalism that worked well, saw us through the aftermath of WWII and the US forcing the UK into a currency crisis over Suez.

But as time went on, as British politicians lost their backbone, their patriotism to this country and sold their souls for a cheap dime to the American "way" we have watched in quite quick time New Labour under the American's direction sell out the infrastructure of this country and through that eviscerated this nations ability to cope with shocks and financial crises.

For the most part we have been used by our so-called "allies", taking their toxic debt on a nod and a wink and now it seems again that more toxicity is about to emerge with the corruption and lies being exposed once more.

Bush on the other hand does little to keep these things from spiralling further, he orders the mint to increase its daily printing of dollars, resolutely watering the dollar down and moving the US into hyperflation, his actions do little to calm financial markets with constant threats of US action against Iran, NATO beating its chest at Russia and the continuance of allowing the Israeli's to do their thing causes further jitters especially in the oil markets and making OPeC members consider once again of moving oil trades to Euro's which are worth a considerable amount more than the watered down dollar.

It is a culmination of all these things, not just one that has brought us here, Darling is only holding the reins that Brown held before him, in the crisis created by Bush, Blair and Brown, New Labour have done little for this nation but it seems have expended a heck of a lot of our resources in keeping the US afloat and I find that outrageous.

As the US empire collapses, is it not wise that we readjust our loyalties rather than be dragged down into the financial abyss America is going into? Are we not making matters worse by shoring up what is essentially an economy many trillions of dollars in the red?

These are issues that our politicians should be addressing, not rehearsing scripts from Washington
EU through rose-tinted glasses? 7:46pm on 02 Sep 2008 I am rather curious, as to why the BBC have failed to cover, link to or even identify the existance of an OSCE report in this last week which points a rather damning finger at Geogia and accepts that Russia did act in self defence.

If that report was put in context with much of the recent BBC reporting it would change the whole shape and smell of this debacle yet its up to the news services outside of the US coalition of the coerced to identify little gems such as this.

And why is it still not being accepted by western media that Georgia shelling Russian troops and crossing the border started this whole shebang off and yet the western media portrays Russia as the aggressor and labels it wholeheartedly responsible for the affair when the very facts say otherwise.

It occurs to me once again that the BBC are acting instead of news providers but more propagandists by witholding salient facts from its readership and that the only arguable fact is whether the strings are being pulled here by Downing Street or Washington, the BBC is something owned by the taxpayer outright and I find it rather odious that we pay for a service that simply mislead us at the behest of either our own policitians whose wages we pay or that of a foreign power...
Georgia crisis tests EU 7:09pm on 27 Aug 2008 I find the hypocrisy from Britain and America breathtakingly outrageous.

Russia is doing in its provincial border areas exactly what America and the US did with Kosovo, why is it right only for the US's dictates to be acceptable whilst Russia's not?

Miliband speaks for the US, he does not speak for the people of Britain and should be removed from office anyway because the man has stated that he only thinks one super power should be evident and that being the US, he is like all the rest of the New Labour traitors, who sold us out to the Americans and why we are facing a massive recession and being dragged into wars with countries like Russia to serve US policy.

America hasn't got a hope in hell of winning through on this, what it has got a chance of is destroying NATO and alienating so badly the countries and peoples of Europe who are once again feeling like the designated field of fire in the war of words brewing here.

I also hear Bush and Miliband crow about international law but hold on, isn't NATO in Afghanistan outside of its legal remit? Ot absorbing Poland and the proposed Ukraine and Georgia applications also against the law?

Its like Bush screaming about Iranian's in Iraq but forgets that he and Blair/Brown sent special forces into Iran to seed destruction and death, it seems its all OK, its legal regardless of the law as long as its America thats doing it... in other words total crap.

And come winter, if Putin turns the gas off to Europe, what will the europeans do for light, heat and how will industry function in a current climate of oil scarcity?

Is this what the ID cards and increased police powers is all about, the possibility that countries in Europe may suddenly rise up in arms because they are freezing to death with no light or heat or means to cook food? A pre-emptive big brother because its always been on the cards that NATO and America would reignite the cold war?

What the people in Europe do not understand is that their leaders have sold them out so that their countries literally become decoys and targets for Russian missiles, this is done to buy time for the US to go underground and mount a response whilst Europe is razed to the ground, the people in Poland, Czechoslovakia and Ukraine simply do not understand that in a US led antagonism, it is very likely, almost a certainty that they would be vaporised first, then Germany, France, Britain, we have a couple minutes warning, the US has half an hour at least, we the people of Europe have been set up and it will be us that will be doing the dying in any future pan-european conflict.

And the question to be asked here is: Would the US risk total annihilation in response to us here in Europe being attacked?

I think it is time that America was thrown out of Europe along with its arrogant titles of command, if the US wants to duke it out with the Russians, fine, let them do so but not at the cost of Europe being held up as a hostage and a shield, it is time before the Russians do enter onto a path of no return that we start making decisions for ourselves, not elected spokespersons for Washington reflecting policy that does little for us but always works to the American advantage, it is time that we stood on our own and faced our own perils, not that of a warmongering, fascist state

Five years ago, Russia was a partner, thanks to Bush, it is now a very angry enemy, folks, don't point the finger at Putin, make sure its nailed squarely at Bush...
Is Amy porn? 3:28pm on 03 Jul 2008 Shame the same editorial vigour couldn't be applied to more meaningful areas such as corruption in government, war crimes committed by certain nations, the embrace of openly torturing people by America, the truth behind WMD II Iran... the list is endless.

In my opinion the BBC lost a lot of kudos and respect by bowing down to the lowest common denominator, by becoming a voice piece for Bush and Downing St and this is why we see more on stories like Amy's rather than real news highlighting such issues as listed above that are real issues and either misreported or ignored in entirety.

After all it was a BBC man that warned of creating opiate for the masses through media manipulation... stories such as those on Winehouse are very much in that vein, designed to keep us focused on such and ignoring the real stuff going on behind the scenes.
Spend less or tax more? 12:47pm on 02 Jul 2008 Simple...

Lets bring the troops home, stop spending huge amounts on defence that we don't need, scrap tridents replacement and make Trident last longer...

The military adventure in the Middle East is one of the single biggest drains on our economy.

And maybe the people should realise that we have had years of very low income tax, something that has been paid for by stealth sales of taxpayers assets, there is nothing left to sell now and so it stands that maybe the better off should be the first to start paying into the coffers.
Gutsy Gates 11:34am on 30 Jun 2008 I find the continued hypocrisy from the US more and more outrageous.

Firstly Bush claims to seed democracy yet Iran is a democratic country that he has just authorised a couple hundred million dollars for "covert action" e.g. sedition, terrorism paid for by the US taxpayer in an attempt to bring down a democratic government.

Secondly, we see no proof... ever! We have innuendic claims milled out sometimes on a daily basis from America and Israel, claiming this and that about the evils of Iran, where is the evidence? The proof because I am sure that if they really had some it would be on the front pages of every media outlet.

Thirdly, America is intent on committing economic suicide (dragging us down with them) by attacking Iran, the Pentagon state that they could squash Iran anytime (Adm Fallons words) but this is not the case and it is very likely that without the use of tactical nuclear weapons, Iran can and will defend itself admirably and with the Russian S-3/400's, SunBurn, its new fighter and bomber planes alone it will certainly bloody the Americans nose and indeed they can and will close down three quarters of middle eastern oil exports in a day.

America is struggling to meet its energy needs, an attack on Iran will cause its ally Venezueala to cease all oil exports to America, something the US depends upon critically to the tune of one fifth of essential oil dependency, if Chavez turns the taps off to the US, the US will face an immediate oil crisis, Saudi Arabia is at capacity, Iraq is incapable of meeting shortfalls, the western world and Europe will also be demanding oil from a finite amount, the west will plunge into a fuel and economic crisis yet to be seen in magnituide on this planet.

Lastly, let us not forget China and Russia, China has declared quite literally that any attempt to interfere with its oil imports will constituite an act of war, Iran and Syria are also very close allies of Russia as they are of China, I think that the Americans are badly misreading the situation here, especially after eviscerating its economy and military on Iraq, weakening both, Russia and China may see that it would benefit them both to remove America as a world player altogether by supporting Iran, forcing the US into a fight it cannot ever hope to win.

And regardless of whether Iran is seeking nuclear weapons or not, Russia and China are nations that do have nuclear weapons, that can call up massive standing armies equal to or greater than the total population of the US, America might win a small tactical skirmish in Iran but it is incapable of ever taking on anything bigger especially as it is a nation that is bankrupt and it just so happens that China, the ally of Iran holds most of America's debt...

Consider this... if the "might" of America, the majority of its standing forces cannot subdue one small nation, how the heck does it think it can subdue a nation that is many times larger, with a modern military, logistics and isn't afraid to die fighting the US?

Its time for the people of the world to realise that America is doomed if it continues along this path...
Contrasting speeches 11:50am on 19 Jun 2008 We have been led here by the greedy New Labourites who have forced this country onto its knees for its own ends.

What time will tell though is how that Blair sold the very infrastructure out from under our feet so that we will own very little.

And someone must pay the price of accepting the toxic US debt and forcing us into an illegal war that has cost us billions for little return.

I say we should direct our politicians to reassert control over essential assets in this land, take back our military infrastructure, health infrastructure, education infrastructure, stop wasting billions in Afghanistan and Iraq and begin investing in the UK, it will be slow, it won't show dividends at first but it will mean that our country will once again be in control of its own destiny and not working for the corporate interests of other nations.

And what we should really, really consider here right now is a divorce from the US, break the special relationship if need be, they are more responsible for bringing us down to our knees than our own inept politicians, they are supposed to a friend, an ally, with friends like that.... who needs enemies.

If America is going to flounder, why should we be dragged down into the same abyss? Why should we for little reason I can see impale ourselves on the same sword?

What we have witnessed is one of the greatest robberies in the UK of all time folks, Blair robbed the coffers whilst we were all watching, he has put the UK into an untenable condition and placed the UK into a vicelike grip from America that will take strong politicians to solve.

It will take men of vision and courage to sort this mess out, not bought men who try to appease the US and putting our interests at the bottom of the list.

Isn't it time we had politicians that put OUR needs, desires and wants first?
'Sexed-up' evidence? 10:31am on 11 Jun 2008 I am concerned that when will it appear that 42 days isn't enough? 90 days won't suffice? We are moving into dangerous terrirtory here with the result a possible incarcaration without due process indefintely.

Why is it that the FBI can charge within three days and the UK has to take three months?

I am very suspicious that instead of nipping these so-called "plots" in the bud that the services are allowing them to prosper in order to catch all the bad eggs in one go but... the question then has to be asked on how much assistance these plots are given to keep them going and then we are walking into entrapment and enticement too.

At the end of the day, Britain and America enraged the Muslim world by illegally invading and occupying Iraq, they still don't get it that if they hadn't committed these series of atrocious crimes that such legislation would be needed, Brown doesn't need to do this, what he needs to do is pull the troops from the Middle East, make reparation to the Iraqi people and take a very very long step back from America and Israel.

That is the quickest, most expedient way to stop any of this, the Iraqi's are not going to back down any other way and until we make peace with these wronged people then there will be the potential for terrorism.

Strange though how the French resistance were freedom fighters and Britain helped arm and train them to commit acts of "terrorism" against military and civilian targets in Europe but today the same formula is sidestepped when it comes to the Muslims...
