England on brink of historic breakthrough 11:52pm on 09 Sep 2009 I'm going to be in London tommorow with a friend, I'm hoping we'll be able to find a pub or something that will be showing the game, especially since it's against Germany. I'm not hugely confident of finding somewhere tbh... Anyhow, good luck to the women!
Big business as usual 4:42pm on 01 Jun 2009 As a Portsmouth fan, why is our victory always equated to Harry's victory? It's annoying. It was Portsmouth FC that was etched on the FA Cup, not Harry Redknapp. It seems all credit for our FA cup victory is given to him and him alone. Likewise as you say, it's seen as a reward for Harry, not for Portsmouth. Absolutely infuriating.
Sbragia faces moment of truth 5:14pm on 26 Apr 2009 I sat among the home fans for the Ispwich vs Portsmouth fa cup game last year and I joined in a few Portsmouth chants and cheered while we scored. Apart from getting glared at by one of the stewards, everything was fine.

Come in number one 12:18pm on 14 Feb 2009 I've always been a big fan of Foster. He was great the one time I saw Watford play live (against Portsmouth). But he really needs to leave Man U as his talent is being wasted. Preferably to Portsmouth. He'd be a good stop-gap betweeen David James and Asmir Bergovic, who apparently is highly rated.
Hatton-mania alive and well 1:57pm on 22 Nov 2008 Personally I think chanting, singing etc is great in any sport, including cricket. The chanting in cricket just helps to add to the atmosphere in my opinion, after all it's all about having fun, having a few Pimm's, watching some cricket. Likewise there's nothing wrong with Mexican waves. Personally in a cricket game I'd rather have lots of chanting going on than sitting in silence. It seems slightly elitist the way you say it in fact. And yes, Americans chant too you know.

And for the comment about cheering, applauding in movies and so on, I've seen that happen a few times in the UK too. For instance, after Legolas killed the Oliphant in Return of the King. Also happens upon landing while flying somewhere as well. I find nothing wrong with that either. It's all just good humour.

However I'm against booing national anthems no matter what nations they are, especially the Russian one since it has an awesome tune. That's something that should really be stopped by England fans but the rest is fine!
Wild about 'Arry 2:24pm on 14 Nov 2008 As a Portsmouth fan, all this Harry Redknapp worshipping is just rubbing salt in the wounds of someone who jumped ship at the first sign of another club calling (and would have done last year when Newcastle came calling if it wasn't the distance).

And I would personally love an Olympic football team at the olympics. Oh big deal so it's after the Euros so it'll be less prestigious. But the Olympics are the biggest sporting event in the world (sorry World Cup, but this is bigger and truly global) and it is only right that the home of football should have a team competiting in the football tournament for the olympics in the home of football. But petty politic gets in the way as per usual. Does it matter how many players of one particular nationality are in? At the end of the day, during the tournement they're not Welsh or English or Scottish, they're British (and anyway, I'm sure there'll be plenty from the other home nations, especially Wales). Just for once let the United Kingdom actually live up to it's name. This is a once in a life time opportunity, the question I pose to you all is do we sieze it, or do we let politics get in the way of an event that is meant to be seperate from politics? Do we prevent 23-25 (whatever the team number is) people living the Olympic dream just to fulfill some kind of jingoistic ego of the individual home nations?
