Made off with $50bn 12:24pm on 15 Dec 2008 It seems to me that the entire hedge fund industry is a legal vehicle for robbery on a grand scale. They should now all be closed down.
Talking tax cuts 12:41pm on 10 Nov 2008 An enormous fiscal stimulus, at no cost to the government, could be provided by extending national insurance to all earnings, introducing a 50% tax rate on all earnings beyond £100,000 pa and diverting the £10 billion generated every year into the paypackets of average earners, poor pensioners and those on benefits. Labour should have done this in 1997, but it is still not too late.
Bank of England unmanned 3:11pm on 25 Sep 2008 During the prolonged Waal St crash of 1929, the value of shares declined by 89% from their peak.

What we have today is nothing like this. Only the casino capitalists in the banking sector have been hammered. Let them and their investors loose everything. Introduce a Nationalised Bank to purchase any liquidated assets, don't pay executives any bonuses and limit their pay to £100000 per year. Prevent any executives in the failed companies working in that capacity again.
British banks shorted 10:42am on 24 Sep 2008 Anyone that supports short selling/derivative selling or hedge funds must have their snouts in the trough.

The rights to own shares already exists when you buy them through the stock market. Any other sort or transaction based on any other form of ownership is a recipe for disaster, as recent events have proved. Close all the short sellers and hedge funds down.

Owners of shares, particularly pension funds, should be prevented from lending their stock for such purposes as falls in price directly oppose the interests of their members.

All hedge funds should be closed down.
New world order 08:39am on 18 Sep 2008 Maybe there should be a register of the names of all the failed finaciers, executives and directors of the bankrupted institutions so that they cannot get another job in that capacity again.
Fickle business 12:31pm on 17 Sep 2008 One only has to look at the reporting to see that the campaign to oust Gordon Brown is based , not on any anlysis of government policy, but on the agenda of the Westminster media village to create, manage and perpetuate fatuous non-news.
Meltdown Monday 12:37pm on 15 Sep 2008 The financial meltdown has been caused by chronic underegulation of the financial system and the poor mangement of financial institutions by people of little obvious talent.

I think we should start the clean up by banning the trading of all derivative instruments - buying the right to trade things you don't own, with borrowed money, is just plain bonkers.
