Care to elaborate? Which Rangers players will be there? I can think of Beasley & Bougherra off the top of my head. Edu might make it but he'll probably need to play a good deal more games before summer. After that?Pedro Mendes for Portugal? Highly unlikely. Novo for Spain? Ridiculous.

United could easily have as many players there as you lot: Pernis for Slovakia and Buaben for Ghana are both internationals.

Hmmm. A fractured kneecap, whilst obviously unpleasant, is the kind of injury a player will surely always recover from.

I'm afraid it doesn't quite explain to me why Blackburn were willing to make a £3.5 million loss on Ferguson just over a year after buying him.
Colour barrier finally broken at Athletic Bilbao 10:08am on 16 Dec 2009 I think this was a good article on a valid subject. Personally, I have had fairly conflicting opinions on the whole Bilbao Basques-only policy. On the one hand I used to rather admire the clubs dedication to its roots, its local community and people. In Scotland, for example, it is a source of great pride to Celtic that they won they won the European Cup with a pool of players born within 30 miles of Parkhead Stadium. Furthermore, many people want a 3 or 5 foreign player rule re-introduced to European competions. Viewed from a certain perspective surely the case of Bilbao is not dis-similar to these examples.

However, viewed from a racial point of view Bilbao's policy is of course not necessarily a good thing - they must be about the last team in a half decent league anywhere in the world to field a black player. Hopefully the inclusion of Ramalho will allow me to focus on the more positive aspects of Bilbao's policy.

I think Barcelona have shown the world this style of football IS still possible - you just have to be incredibly cute about it. Xavi, Iniesta (although he has been playing in a more advanced role in the last couple of seasons) and others like Pirlo of Milan have shown that deep lying midfield playmakers CAN contribute decisively to a teams attack.

I can't think of a top class Brazilian to add to the list though, which I find surprising. If any nation on earth can provide clever, skilfull players in that role you'd think it should be Brazil.
Old Firm flight not so fanciful 6:46pm on 11 Oct 2009 So the Old Firm are currently pursuing an escape route from Scottish football? Fine, but lets not sit around waiting for them to leave - lets all resign from the league and start a new one ASAP, without them. Leave them with no-one to play against until they manage to weasel their way in down south. Big passionate crowds - they're bound to be a massive success in the Premiership - just ask Newcastle!

And by the time they reach the Premiership most of their "fans" will be supporting Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City or whoever else is at the top of the league.

is surely as valid as someone born in a former British colony being 'English'. Someone like John Barnes, who was born in Jamaica.

This blog is truly appalling.

I know this, as a blog, is only one man's opinion, but as a journalist working for the BBC I would expect Steve Wilson to be savvy enough to do even the most basic research to make this sound just a little less xenophobic and inflammatory.
Maradona learning the hard way 12:40pm on 07 Sep 2009 Whatever happened to Maxi Lopez? I thought he was a big physical striker. I remember he signed for Barcelona from River Plate then was sent out on loan and I've never heard of him since.

Surely Argentina will still qualify one way or another - do 5th place in South America still play off against Oceania? Didn't see the match, but it sounds like Argentina and Maradona would kill to have Bati-Gol back in his pomp!
