Asset sales do not "cut the deficit". They may help to finance the deficit but that is not the same thing at all.
Seven months for The Sun to boost Cameron 12:26pm on 30 Sep 2009 According to the latest YouGov poll the ABC1s are split 46:26:18 whereas the C2DEs are 32:33:18. The Sun's demographic is largely C2DE and they are probably more likely to be swayed by a newspaper than the ABC1s.

And AFAIK they have had no support from UK Taxpayers at all.

There seems to be no dispute that Osborne asked for this information, and his access was blocked. Whether Gus O'D consulted Brown or just realised that Brown would be very displeased if Osborne got the data is rather beside the point.

The sanctity of the Commons 10:35pm on 28 Nov 2008 You cannot compare a flunkey of the PM with an MP. If the Police can arrest MPs and search their offices in Parliament at will because the MP has embarrassed the government it is the end of democracy as we have known it in the UK.
Weep for Woolies 09:29am on 27 Nov 2008 The collapse of one badly-run retailer does not mean that all the consumer spending that would have taken place there has gone away. Most will be diverted into better run businesses, and make them healthier,
