Gosh, that's very worrying - you really must try to keep the Labour government comfortable. I must admire your ability to not get angry about this arrest. By the way, what's the difference between a leak and an unattributed briefing? Perhaps, you'll deal with this in a forthcoming piece, giving recent examples.

How can the Governor saying that we are in a recession which will be "long" and "deep" be a problem for the Opposition. Oh and by the way, if you have an income, your £s will buy next to nowt on holiday for the next few years. Sometimes I think you type this blog whilst standing on your head.

Rod - I guess you like to think of yourself as "youngish". I think you're complacent. This sort of bahaviour gets aped in the (nowadays, shocking) manners and inconsiderate of young people (ever heard of the endemic increase in bullying?). Also, remember this all the parents and older objectors pay the license fee, many of the young don't. We license payers would like the public service broadcaster to be setting good standards again - as it used to when Andrew Sachs was providing humour in Fawlty Towers.

I reckon amongst taxpayers (in contrast to non-income-payers) 80 out of 100 would prefer any extra borrowing to result from ... TAX CUTS (something we used to experience under the Tories, but is now forgotten as a possibility).

Public Spending? Labour could not organise a beer-drinking gathering in a brewery. I reckon each £5 mn. of public spending adds 10 times more to public pension liabilities than to any useful output/outcome.

Incidentally it's so nice to have the nuances of Brown's policy explained by someone so close to those at the power table.

Resisted pressure? I think you've certainly resisted giving a balanced treatment of the "Yachtgate" issue. At the front of the pack on the side-track of Osborne and hanging well behind on the more substantive issue of Mandelson/EU/granting trade and regulatory privileges.
