Why the right threads matter in Beijing 4:11pm on 16 Jun 2008 This is not the only sport to have had technological innovation; pole vault for example, but I am sure there are many others. I'm sure almost every sport has developed better technologies - certainly any of the sports where shoes are involved will no doubt have better shoe technology than, say, 20 years ago.

There are also, of course, other innovations which have revolutionised different olympic sports, for example the Fosbury Flop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fosbury_Flop) in the high-jump.
