Getting to grips with Thanksgiving Day 12:03pm on 26 Nov 2009 Turkey (a quintessential American bird) has been called turkey, because of a mistaken belief that it originated in Turkey.

Just like many people still believe Panama hat was made in Panama, English muffins come fromn England, Belgian waffles from Belgium and Lisbon Treaty has been concocted by the Portuguese.

As for oyster stuffing... It's O.K.

P.S. If you find turkey meat boring (I do) may I recommend a mahi-mahi steak? Or a decent size lobster tail?

And a turkey called Lisbon Treaty.

And Turkey, for banning burkas and chadors.

Have you ever driven a Prius?

I've test-driven it. About a year ago.

It may be O.K. for city driving. Although Fiat 500 or a scooter would be much easier to park without burning more gasoline.

But for interstate or autobahn? Phhleeease!

P.S. Have you ever checked how much maritime freighters burn/pollute vis-a-vis passenger cars?

Of course that pollution could be eliminated by istalling naval reactors on them. But guess how would Greenpeace react to that. :-)

I'm not implying that we have to give up on wind power.

Or osmosis power. Or tidal power. Or solar power.

I'm not even pointing out that they are not competitive finacially.

I'm merely suggesting, based on hard core data, that numbers simply don't add up and that so called "alternative sources of energy" will not be able to generate significant portion of gigawatts required - in the forseable future.

And fusion reactors are not even on the horizon.

"Experts working for the group say the government guidelines on acceptable noise levels for wind turbines were due for revision 11 years ago and there has been little sign that changes in wind turbine technology is reflected in these rules.

They add that this guidance was designed for structures of about 90ft (27m) in height, but some applications for wind farms include turbines that are at least three times higher.

I, for one, am concerned that we may end up in caves again, shivering under piles of mammoth furs. With no Internet.

P.S. It's interesting to see how Greens are almost universally opposed to the only practical energy source which does not emit any CO2:
nuclear power. Unless, of course, one starts talking about nuclear power for oil-rich Islamic Republic of Iran. :-)
