Brown looks to Obama for consensus 06:57am on 25 Mar 2009 I fear we can rely on Brown to do the wrong thing for the wrong reasons and the consequences will be tragic.

If old red tooth elects to further spend his way into an election the result will be hyper-inflation to follow.

At least he's consistent. Every UK Labour government has wrecked the economy. The country needs to stop believing the something for nothing nonsense they spout.

Easier said than done when they have engineered a block vote of millions who depend on hand outs from cradle to grave.

A country whose enterprise spirit is now encapsulated in a welfare system so generous that millions of Brits will not even consider working. And with no prospect of altering that inside two generations?

Does the Bank Rate matter? 10:14am on 08 Jan 2009 We have clearly been lied to by the government over the extend and depth of the recession, which is largely of their creation. They are about to drip out another estimate in the budget.

Now we are about to subject to the risks of printing money and consequent hyper-inflation without even being consulted.

At the same time the government is spinning that no such action in being considered.

We cannot trust the government to act in our interests.

The people of the country should decide which strategy they wish to pursue: Labour’s spend your way out of recession or the Tories’ save your way out of it.

The outcome for the country is potentially catastrophic.

It’s far too important a decision to be left in the hands of governments with vested interests in self perpetuation.
Bank of England: wrong and powerless 08:20am on 22 Dec 2008 What I find really alarming is that Sir John Gieve has been in this role at this critical time.

He did not leave the Home Office covered in glory and there were serious questions then about the propriety of that department's accounting standards under his leadership.

I do not think the process of anticipating these events and responding to them has been helped by having in the job a man who is not qualified by experience for it.
Fixing the Jag 3:52pm on 18 Dec 2008 It's difficult to detect any consistent economic strategy from the government. Plainly it can't keep saying yes to everybody.

But the political strategy is transparently obvious. Do whatever it takes to get re-elected. If that means bankrupting the country, so be it. If it produces a republic as a by-product of public dissatisfaction, so much the better. Mandelson is of course a former communist.

It is a completely amoral position to adopt and he cannot complain if he himself is subject to amorality in return.
Five-year taxpayer help for banks 09:29am on 16 Dec 2008 Does this signify that the goverment senses it's been rumbled by the public about the sustainability of apparently limitless borrowing?
A tax and spending time bomb rather than a tax bombshell? 3:52pm on 24 Nov 2008 If the Tories actually want to win the next election then they must simply be addicted to power for its own sake, as is the present government.

The nimble Labour critters will quickly tar the Tories with the blame for the results of 13 years of Gordon Brown and they will be turfed out in a landslide in 2015 or thereabouts.

Better sitting this one out if they really want to do good and let Labour dig itself into extinction.
Why our banks are vulnerable 09:49am on 30 Sep 2008 If the government had acted months ago to introduce this measure much of the damage done to banking confidence in this country could have been avoided.
