Photojournalism today 10:01pm on 26 Sep 2009 Photojournalism exists because of photography and people. The two come together because some photographers wish to document human stories and show them to others in the hope of bringing about some sort of change. Whether this is actually possible is another question entirely, but supposing for a moment it is....

...then maybe this 'crash' in photojournalism will return photographers to the crafts roots and really determine WHY they do what they do. And from those ashes something new, exciting and real will emerge. Sure it might not resemble the old model, but it might have a more progressive social consicence, rather than it simply being reduced to a money making venture, where stories of real human beings are ignored due to their story being "too expensive".

It took him 7 innings to reach his 100th 100. I can think of many good batsman who don't score a hundred every 7 innings, let alone get 100 of them in their career.....

Just follow the money 4:01pm on 06 Feb 2009 Are they printing money already? Well after the government altered the 100+ year old Banking Bill regarding the BoE having to no longer make notification if it was doing so, then who knows?
Bust Britain? 1:56pm on 27 Jan 2009 The system is corrupt, entirely. What's needed here is not some tinkering with the system in order to re-balance it, but a fundamental change in the way we deal with each other as human beings on a social and economical level.

I remember anti-capitalists marching against this system whilst the media, politicians and swathes of the general public, all of whom "had never had it so good", laughed at them and shook their head in admonishment.

"Look at us!" They all cried as people marched against the inequality and social barbarism of an system that marginalised billions of poor people whiclt the rich bankers raked in their profits.

Now the ladder is being pulled up and those who were previously immune to this system are beginning to look over their shoulders, it's not so funny. Is it?

....The value of our labour that is being expropriated by the government and being gifted to the banks is largely being used to pay overseas depositors - the Asian countries, the oil states, not depositors within our own countries. Money is pouring out of the Western world. This is why, when so much money is being dropped into the banks it seems to disappear as fast as it is dropped in. When the banks are announcing losses, they are not actually 'losing' the money, they are transferring the money to a new place. That place is not within the Western world - or someone somewhere would be recovering from the crisis.

The problem is this. What we are actually witnessing is our own insolvency. We are having to service the debts that we owe to all of the creditor countries, and we just do not have the means to service these obligations. As fast as we are gifting the value of our labour to the banks, the banks are then using that gift to repay our external creditors, but it is just not enough. The government is having to expropriate ever greater value of our labour to keep the repayments going.

This argument is a bit like someone gorging themselves on junk food for 20 years and having someone warn them that it will cause a heart attack.

Then, when the heart attack eventually happens the victim turns around and says, "Ahhh but you didn't tell me it was going to happen TODAY!"
Mervyn and leverage 07:28am on 23 Jan 2009 UK plc is bankrupt. The debts are huge, the pound is falling in value, and will continue to do so. We do not produce anything near required to pay this debt back.

This can only end one way.

Rescuing the economy, not banks 1:23pm on 19 Jan 2009 Don't blame Robert, he's where he is because he will think and say certain things which are acceptable to those running this mess.

He wasn't going to get the job, or indeed stay in it, if he said anything too unacceptable.
