Gender, pay and 'misleading' stats 4:46pm on 17 Jun 2009 I don't understand why reducing the pay gap, and the number of women in part-time jobs, has to be seen as discrimination against men. It's quite possible (and, I think, likely) that there are many fathers who would like to spend more time at home with the kids, and many mothers who love their careers and would like to continue them. But because men earn more, and find it easier to progress (before you argue with that - ask a few head hunters how likely they are to hire a newly married woman in her 20s/30s) they have to continue to work full time, because their wives don't earn enough to support the family.

Gender stereotypes don't just stop women from earning as much, they stop men from spending as much time at home, and to be honest, I think it's them that are losing out more.
Sunday reading 10:05am on 11 Aug 2008 I noticed in the Waitrose near me there is a recycling bin next to the newspaper stand for people to chuck their unwanted supplements in before leaving the shop.
