The real question about waterboarding 6:36pm on 14 May 2009 Supporters of water boarding (people like Dick Cheney) claim that it leads to useful (i.e. true) information (which is what successful interrogation methods produce).

Critics say that a person being waterboarded will tell you what you want to hear, not necessarily the truth (which is what all torture techniques produce).

There is actually a very easy and fool proof way of scientifically testing whether water-boarding is torture and whether or not it works.

Let a critic waterboard Dick Cheney for five minutes, asking him to admit that water boarding is torture. If he admits (clearly something he opposes) then it's torture. If he can withstand it, then it clearly is not.

This is a perfectly logically constructed game.

Now I know for a fact that no supporter of water-boarding (let alone Cheney) would ever agree to this. That is clear proof that supporters of water-boarding are fully aware that it is torture and that it does not produce valuable info. They are clearly lying.
Who has more freedom? 6:24pm on 14 May 2009 Which country has more freedom?

The level of freedom of a country is measured by the number of rights they allow the people they hate the most to have.

Freedom is not measured by the number of rights you allow for your supporters. Even Hitler and Stalin gave the right to free speech to people with whom they fully agreed.

I don't know about the US and the UK but I know for a fact that we Canadians ARE NOT FREE. We have banned people like Nelson Mandela's wife and George Galloway from coming to the country. At least Michael Savage is a bigotted right-winger. What is the logic in banning anti-racism activists?
Iran's Michelle Obama? 6:07pm on 14 May 2009 To all the posters who for some reason think that just because Obama got elected Iran is not going to be bombed:

The person who formulates the Iran policy for the Obama admin is the Special Adviser for the Persian Gulf and Southwest Asia. Look him up. His name is Dennis Ross.

Here are a few hints:

1. He was one of the founders of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (an AIPAC "think tank").

2. He was part of the American delegation at the Camp David peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians under Clinton. There he received the nick-name "Israel's Lawyer" for his notorious irrational demands of the Palestinians (such as for Palestinains to accept they will have to give up all of East Jerusalem to Israel and allow the settlements to "naturally" expand).

3. He was a BIG Iraq War suppporter and is one of the original signitories of the Project for a New American Century. He lobbied heavily for the war for both Clinton and Bush (W).

4. He has already explained that his Iran "strategy" is to make a series of ultimatums against Iran, which he said "we know the Iranians will refuse". The strategy then requires the US to claim that Iranian nukes are imminent and to proceed with "strategic pre-emptive strikes" against the country.

As for this story, I don't understand why Justin Webb is so amazed that an Iranian woman is campaigning with her husband. There are women in the Iranian parliament you know!

Who are you kidding with this remark. In one short sentence you gave yourself away as a propogandist! And not even a very good one!

Look up freedom in the dictionary. You will find that it has nothing to do with government oversight of markets.

I consider the idea that people who disapprove of market anarchism/cronyism , dislike "freedom", to be the stupidest thing said in this century (so far). But hey, don't fear, this century is less than a decade old and Bush and Co still has a few months in office. Still plenty of time for someone to break your record.
A great reading list 6:42pm on 10 Sep 2008 BBC please get your facts straight. The fact that Palin tried to remove books from the town library has been confirmed TRUE - not false.

The list you provided is fake, no such lists exists. But Palin tried to fire the librarian who would not cooperate with her plan to remove books and had to back off when the public rallied behind the librarian. She never got the chance to submit a list of books. All this is public knowledge and has been confirmed by the residents of the town.

The original source of this story was Palin's fellow town-mate Anne Kilkenny. She wrote an email to her family and friends explaining all this. The letter was forwarded to others and quickly became an internet sensation. She has written a few clarifications about it in a new article she wrote entitled "Letters from Wasilla".

I strongly recommend people read the letter/article first-hand to get the facts straight, rather having the facts recycled through the mainstream media.
