The Bush Conundrum 1:12pm on 14 Jan 2009 The main issue with Iraq is that the evidence was still not enough to do a pre-empted attack on another nation at that time.

Even if you believed everything, it still did not justify the USA attacking another country without an act of war. War should always be the last option and with inspectors on the ground and politicians still taking, it was not even close.
The Bush Conundrum 5:48pm on 13 Jan 2009 I think most of you are giving the man to much credit. Knowing his history before 2001 and seeing many interviews, I truly do not believe he had a clue about what was happening or how to solve it. He always talked like someone who had studied for an exam, albeit badly.

I don't believe for a second that many of the decisions that he made came from his own mind. I believe he was heavily influenced and made decisions based on the arguments presents to him.

Even if you are a bad presenter or have issues talking to a crowd, you can generally sell your own ideas and thinking. He was never able to do that and sometimes struggled to present the basics.

To me, what I will remember most about the Bush years is the use of the Nazi tactics of fear, followed by restrictions and laws removing certain rights.

"You are either with us or against us" is the Bush legacy.

Yes and no.. at the time, they built the vehicles people wanted to buy. They both realized at some point that they could put a cab on a truck bed for 15k and people were stupid enough to buy it as a high end suv for 40k.

The problem is that they turned over most of their development and factory space to making these monsters.

In the mean time, Toyota and Honda were building for the future. When the turn around came, as the Japanese predicted, then GM and Ford were toast.

If I had any simpathy for GM, I lost it completed the day I watch the documentary 'Death of an Electric Car"

They had a viable, sporty electric vehicle that with todays batteries, would drive 300 miles on a charge.. and as soon as they defeated the laws in CA that required them to make such cars, they hunted down every single one that had been made (loaned) and destroyed them.

Its the standard political approach. State a lie often enough and people start to believe it. The problem is, that only a small number of swing voters will buy the lie this time. There are too many angry and informed voters for this election for lies and negative attacks to work.
McCain loses it 1:00pm on 24 Oct 2008 icetayoa - Obama is not suspending his campaign. He is/did cancel events to travel to Hawaii. Obama can not campaign whilst he is with a sick person, but McCain could campaign whilst dealing with the rescue bill.

There really is no comparasion in the 2 events.

Does anyone else find it funny that people who have lost their jobs and are struggling to put food on the table, get so upset about redistributing someone else's wealth to them just because it is labeled as socialism?

.. but getting welfare via the government from tax payers money is ok.

I live in rural Virginia and 2 weeks ago I *knew* that Obama was going to win VA. That is because for every 1 McCain poster, there are 3 for Obama. This is RURAL Virginia. My neighbor is a die hard Rupublican who would not look out of place in a picture of confederate soilders. When I first moved to the area and asked where something was, they told me to go down this road and turn right at the 'colored' church. It was an hour before I realized I was not looking for some red church building.. and yet, they will be voting Democrate for the first time in their lives.

"Eight of 10 Democrats are supporting Obama, while nine in 10 Republicans are backing McCain. Independents are about evenly split."

I have no idea where this has come from, but my experience suggests something different. Many, many people I have spoken to have said the same thing.. "Always voted for Republicans but this year I am voting for Obama". I would doubt that even 6 out of 10 republicans are backing McCain.

Independents by and large are so disgusted by the Bush years that it is unlikely to be an even split.

A landslide would not surprise me at all.
McCain loses it 1:41pm on 23 Oct 2008 Something we have learned this last couple of weeks. Most people have no clue what socialism is.. and 2) Most people have no clue that most US domestic policies are socialist in nature.

The comments this week by someone stating that Obama policies are socialist like Cuba's was the biggest laugh of the week.

As to McCain. You have to go back to 2000 and what happened to him to understand how he changed. He was destroyed by the Bush henchman and has been bitter and resentful every day since...

..and now, after forcing himself to reconcile with Bush in 2004 and supporting the Bush policies for 4 years, he is seeing his dream slip away from him by some young upstart.

After all, the presidency his, it's his turn dammit and no one is going to get in his way..

I have yet to find any main western media going into detail on the USA hypocrisies. It is not being reported on at all.

It is so obvious what the USA are up to in regards to Iraq and I think the Europeans will over and let them take control of parts of Iraq because Europe needs Iraqi oil.

Regardless, what exactly do you want Europe to do about it?
