Getting to grips with Thanksgiving Day 8:29pm on 26 Nov 2009 #49, thanks, but I know that very well (apart from the memories, I doubt if I am as ancient as you). Unfortunately my family are rather more traditional, bizarrely the non meat-eater particularly. Us carnivores would actually prefer a good steak. And we may get our wish, nearly, as I believe prime rib may be on the menu for xmas.
Getting to grips with Thanksgiving Day 7:17pm on 26 Nov 2009 Mark, great post. As a brit in the USA, I am looking at 3 turkey dinners this year. We visit an american family today, we will of course (sadly) have turkey for christmas, and we had a 'christmas' dinner in september while in the UK.

MA's suggestion of cooking the turkey breast side down does help. I also stuff loads of sausage meat under the skin, and drape bacon all over it. Even if the bird turns out as a disaster the skin turns out great.

Too many questions? 6:20pm on 16 Nov 2009 I've just read the offending article on squirrelpost, and there is only possible explanation. Which we all knew anyway. There is one poster here who is protected. He who pays the piper and all that.
