Blair and Betrayal 11:44am on 05 Oct 2009 The main parties assume that people will not vote UKIP in a general election ~ I think they under-estimate the strength of feeling on this issue.

Before the election the voters will need to know where the main parties stand, and only the Conservatives can offer a referendum with any chance of being believed, the other parties have already reneged on this.
Tuesday 29 September 2009 5:59pm on 29 Sep 2009 So a policy stolen from the BNP ~ A promise for childcare for all the mothers who aren't prepared to register on his child-minders database ~ A ban on the 24 hour drinking culture he helped introduce ~ and a promise of a referendum ~ well we've never heard that one before.

The only good news was the elected House of Lords we can get rid of Mandy, Baroness Scotland, Baron Sugar, and all the other unelected rabble that he and his cronie have foisted on us.
Are 'broken families' responsible for 'Broken Britain'? 4:22pm on 02 Sep 2009 One parent families are up against it all the way, either the parent is financially struggling due to living on benefits, or the child is spending time in care establishments that do not provide a suitable alternative to family live.

The question is why are there so many single parents ? Perhaps there would be less if divorce wasn't so cheap and easy, perhaps if parents bore responsibility for teenage mothers, perhaps if motherhood was given a positive press it would make a difference.
Searching for places on the BBC 11:05am on 23 Jul 2009 Remember the search is based on UK place names ~ how many people put London into a search ? You can understand Glastonbury, but why London ?

BBC coverage is London-centric, whilst some of this is natural given that London is the capital, other parts of it relfect the ease with which reporters can reach London locations. Too often London locations are used to reflect national stories.

I know league clubs rely more on gate attendance, but I'd be talking about 1 live game per week, per league. I think the increased local interest would mean an increased gate, but maybe I'm wrong. Either way we can't put the game back in its box and throw out TV. Love it or loathe it, live TV football is here to stay.

In an ideal world football would tell television what matches it could televise and when, but Murdoch effectively owns the Premier League now, look at the way he's bullied them into giving Setanta less matches.

Mawhinney tackles the big issues 12:34pm on 01 Jun 2009 The truth is that player expectations and salaries in the Premier League are out of touch with reality. A salary cap related to club income is needed, and income from television revenue cannot be included in that.

Why can't live Championship football be shown on a Saturday afternoon on terrestrial channels ?
Competion with Sky ? We're told that everyone wants to watch The Premiership, so surely not. Leagues One and Two could be shown live on Sundays or on a Tuesday night. The fans are interested, the clubs would welcome the money, and it would make free football available for youngsters to watch again.

I think we need to hold regional elections instead of all going to the ballot at once. If the country was divided in 3 and a third voted at a time then the balance of power could more accurately reflect pubic opinion, where a different group would be voting every other year, and sweetners to retain power would become inneffectual.
Speaker's anger 6:14pm on 11 May 2009 The verdict is in from the court of public opinion.

Mr Martin has brought the post of Speaker into disrepute, his impatiallity is questionable, and his behaviour with regard to the Freedom of Information act and the results of the court case have been unacceptable.

He should be sacked and not allowed the dignity of a resignation.
Trusting social workers 2:02pm on 06 May 2009 I think we need to focus on the needs of the child and not the rights of the individual. Serial parenting is now regarded as a viable option, despite all evidence that suggests this a hunting ground for abusers.

The answer lies in how we value motherhood, society, and education. It will not be resolved by another databse.
