RBS board to quit if chancellor vetoes £1.5bn in bonuses 5:14pm on 02 Dec 2009 Let's see if Darling has got what it takes to face them down. Profit this year should be set against losses from previous years. Or alternatively, if this years's profits are real ones, in five years' time the bank can pay out the bonuses once there's proof that they were responsibly earned.
Will EU flunk its big moment? 09:36am on 19 Nov 2009 I'd like to know why we're still trying to get Tony Blair into the job, unless there's a secret plan to let him destroy the EU in the same way he destroyed the UK.

Perhaps we could have an SNP politician put forward for the role, then he could use the expertise they've gained in fighting for devolution to shift power away from Brussels and back to the individual countries.
Time to eat the pets? 12:54pm on 15 Nov 2009 Our cats are fairly good at self-feeding, based on the number of part-eaten mouse carcasses we find outside. However, they have a huge carbon footprint, given that they've all flown across the Atlantic at least once each.
Bah humbug 12:57pm on 05 Nov 2009 The Patrick Stewart version is actually very good, one of the best. We have a family tradition to watch it every year. I don't know that I'll bother with the latest one, unless I come across it by accident when I'm in the mood to watch TV and there's nothing else on.
Endemic EU backroom dealing could scupper Blair 8:57pm on 29 Oct 2009 I have to agree that #1 sums it up really well. If the Eurocrats really wanted democracy then we'd be electing the EU commission and the EU president by popular vote across the whole of the EU, not leaving it to the warlords (good comparison) to decide. However, that would indeed spoil their party because various parts of the EU electorate have shown leanings in that direction before and had to try again before their answers were acceptable.
The Mad Hatter's time lesson 09:22am on 26 Oct 2009 The Information Commissioner would probably have less to do if some parts of government were to answer their questions in a more timely manner. At the moment it seems that when you ask a question, they're supposed to answer it within 20 days. If this doesn't happen, you either keep waiting or request an internal review and wait another 20 days. Once that deadline has passed, it appears that either you can keep waiting or appeal to the IC. Having requested some data from DCSF back in July, I'm still waiting. The dilemma is whether I should keep waiting or whether to push it to the IC, where I might have to wait even longer. It wasn't even sensitive data, apart from the fact that lack of an answer shows up a flagship databasde in a bad light if it can't provide that answer quickly and efficiently.
The fight over a Blair presidency 2:48pm on 25 Oct 2009 If Blair can do for Europe what he's done for Britain, then I would have thought the Eurosceptics would be pushing for him to take the role. You wouldn't print my real opinion of him, but suffice to say I'm not impressed by his performance in office. Slimy is far too polite a word, but it's a characteristic that will help him slide into office. In some ways it's appropriate for him to achieve an office that serves no useful purpose, the danger is that he'll manage to do more damage once he's behind the desk.
The picket and the postage stamp 6:08pm on 22 Oct 2009 It's worth noting that in that bastion of capitalism known as the USA, they jealously guard their postal service, with alternative delivery services subject to strict rules (usually about delivery performance relative to USPS performance). Perhaps we need to take a note of that and treat ours as a proper public service and give up on this silly notion of selling it off and opening it up to competition.

That's not to say it can't be modernised, but I'll avoid that can of worms because I don't know the full facts.
Blair for President? 9:06pm on 02 Oct 2009 I'd like to add my vote to the "No to Bliar" camp. Although, if he does as good a job at wrecking the EU as he's done to the UK then perhaps I ought to offer him my support.
The politics of 'proper behaviour' 05:57am on 30 Sep 2009 Looking at that definition: "...in a manner that caused or was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not of the same household as himself."

I reckon most government ministers have managed to do at least one of those to me in the past twelve years. Perhaps I can get an ASBO served on them to stop them being so stupid and wasteful?

Icing on the cake is the recent fiasco about childcare. That has undoubtedly distressed many people, and I would hope that there's a unanimous two-fingered gesture in the direction of Westminster as everyone carries on as before and ignores them. Roll on the election.
