Curbing bank executives' enthusiasm 12:44pm on 16 Jul 2009 The last three times I have had to speak to a bank employee - all from the Halifax Bank of Scotland HBOS, they have suggested either a new higher interest account (thanks) or in fact suggested I take out a loan ! I couldnt believe it and started saying to them I cant believe you are suggesting that and just look after the money we have given you in the first place. (we have lost lots in shares this year). They actually respond as though I am a raving lunatic and I end up feeling bad ! They dont see what I am saying at all - I know they are junior members of staff but you might think they would see the funny side of it - surely other people must respond as I do as well ! They actually said that I could take out £15,000 and it could help when buying a car. I said the only debt we ever take out is our mortgage.
Vote early, vote often 11:50am on 17 Jun 2009 Yes the Kelvingrove permanent exhibit about history of Glasgow is dreadful. All sectarianism and poverty. Nothing much about the great heritage of the second city of the Empire and history of shipbuilding and engineering innovation.

However there are some nice interactive exhibits that my kids love. And an interesting display of art. But there are also exhibits which are unlabelled - I think we are just supposed to stand and marvel at the colours.... !

As you say though the building is great and the Salvador Dali worth seeing. And there are often organ recitals.
Survival but at what price? 8:32pm on 05 Jun 2009 Why no mention of the European election results? Not even a link to follow on BBC website. Have I missed something ? Are they not out until whole of Europe has voted or something ?
Did we go to all that effort yesterday for nothing ?
Coal scrubs up 10:38am on 06 May 2009 John Brown Engineering from Clydebank had all sorts of new innovations in coal technology. ONe was fluidised bed gas turbines.
I remember my father goign to speak to Michael Heseltine at the time so it must have been during the Thatcher era.
They were not interested.
John Browns has now been closed for a number of years and in fact the last office block where my father worked has just been pulled down.
So that is where Britain's innovative technology has gone.....
Home discomforts 10:33am on 06 May 2009 Well I verify the comment at No. 2 where our house price in 1996 went from 80,000 to 150,000 in 2002.
We deliberately bought small as the prices were unrealistic. Some people have made a lot of money and I guess some will lose a lot if they bought at the top of the market. But I dont think they should be compensated as they made it difficult for the rest of us by paying silly prices for houses.
We had already lived through a period of 15% interest rates and negative equity so were very careful when we bought a house again.

However what I came on to say was that in our area, which is Milngavie, it is very obvious that the nice houses still sell. But any house which has a slight problem with it or is over-priced is just not selling at all. Some houses have been on the market for over a year. I think things have started to pick up a bit though.
So when they say house prices have fallen for example 2%, then that figure ignores the ones which havent sold at all. So the picture is often a lot worse than the figures tell us.
Caption Competition 10:56am on 13 Feb 2009 Looks like the keepers have been trying some more of those mental stimulation and enrichment exercises again - its supposed to be good for their brains !

Ah well - lets get back to lunch !
Equestrian team celebrate 09:59am on 12 Sep 2008 Well done getting gold ! This is the only event I have been waiting to watch in either the olympics or paralympics, having seen Lee on the TV programme. However as you say I havent been able to work out when it is to be shown on television. The timetabling seems to be really bad. I also never worked out for the Olympics which events were live and which werent !
HOwever well done and I will try and catch any other dressage which is on now that I know it is on this week.
Clearly confused 11:51pm on 13 May 2008 I was just wondering if the whole thing is merely an exercise to distract everyone from the fact that Labour did so badly in the local elections in England and also in the London Mayor election.
I dont know whether they are talking about this in England as much as here but who knows. Although Wendy Alexander doesnt seem a very likely candidate to choose to do this !
