Dear First Name. 1:32pm on 09 Nov 2009 I used to be a civil servant, and worked in the Private Office of a Government Minister.

Given that the Prime Minister made the same mistake in the soldier's name in writing to the mother as he did in the House of Commons, I would conjecture that: either the information given by the MoD to the PM's Office contained that mistake; or, that the mistake was made by the person responsible for typing the PM's Statements and for providing the list of soldiers to whose next of kin a letter is to be sent.

"Dyslexia is a myth" 12:41pm on 14 Jan 2009 I don't have any experience of what does or does not go on in schools, colleges or universities with regard to people with dyslexia, so I can't comment on some of what Graham Stringer has said. I can, however, comment with authority on my own experience of dyslexia. My husband is in his late sixties, and while he can read, he cannot write with any confidence because of his dyslexia. His dyslexia manifests itself in confusing the order of letters in words: for example, he does crosswords, and can spell out the answer correctly but fails to write it down correctly. This is not just 'bad spelling', and had never been identified during his formal education, and thus never labelled as dyslexia. He had always been ashamed of his self-perceived inability to spell, but with assistance has recently completed his first novel.

David Davis resigns as an MP. 2:59pm on 12 Jun 2008 Whether he wins or loses, the 42 days legislation will have the same
future as if he'd stayed in Parliament, as will the other civil
liberties issues he's concerned about - but we taxpayers will pay for
the by-election, as will the members of the constituency Conservative
Party given that the national Conservative Party is apparently not going
to give him their full and complete backing and support.

Mr Davis is apparently unable to convince the rest of his party to
pledge to repeal the 42 days legislation and the other civil liberties
issues he's concerned about, so I for one would be better able to
understand his position if he resigned the Tory whip as well. As it is,
he's exposing the Tory party as just as riven with dissent as it ever
was, and hardly likely to impress the electorate as electable into
Government.
Public toilets: it's all cisterns go. 4:34pm on 06 Mar 2008 Our local council (Tunbridge Wells) is planning to close a central public toilet facility, and is also hoping to delegate the costs of public toilet provision in surrounding villages to parish councils - so here it will be all cisterns gone!
