First of all it is inevitable it will hit books once e-readers become the new Ipod. Like music you will have to change how, if at all, you get money for it. Simplest will be to return to storytelling, verbally, as music performs in pubs and the like, and story tellers of old worked for a meal.

It is not about manual work, but the end of payments for ever for one bit of work, exploiting technology in order to sell it again and again and again. While the copies could only be mass produced it opened up new huge exploitation, printed copies were cheaper than typing out yourself and binding. No longer. The world will change, either work with it or die out. Just as printers put out of work hand copyists and illuminators. Now this change may hit the authors too, so their works will be downgraded to hobbyist. Centuries of out of print work will be free too, has to be good overall. Copyright personal monopoly principle is dead. Created by technology and destroyed by newer technology. Had a good run for our money, but the game is on the way out.
Facts about file-sharing 12:47pm on 02 Dec 2009 The music and other industries whinging about file shareing have to get over it and see it as free advertising. The have NO right at all to payment for something of no cost to reproduce, files. Books will follow soon with e-readers, good. Get over it get a new scam to make money out of mere minstrels and players one off work. There is NO reason these mere minstrels and players or storytellers should be well paid let alone rich. Do not want to be copied for free do not record, simple. Work for a living instead. Copyright will only ever be acceptable when street sweepers get paid serially for their work done in the last 100 years.

Game is over. Just seeing the death thrashings of a past age.
Did Google just blink? 12:13pm on 02 Dec 2009 A dinosaur thrashing around like the music industry. Murdock will lose out by charging. People reference newspaper articles on line to each other on messageboards or even the less good blog systems. People will just quote the bit they want, and the newspaper site will lose the visits, who would see their adverts. The need is to pay journalists less, cut costs, it is going to have to be a low value job. Not any problem. I doubt many who buy a paper actually are the same as those seeing it on the web. Papers are used to read on trains and such like, a habit few will break just because they can see it on the web. Most web users for news go via the BBC, and never buy a paper anyway. Only occasionally going to newspaper sites.

I think we mostly know Ltd companies are separate legal entities, this makes banks try on the demand for personal guarantees. Completely defeating the point of there being separate identities. By getting personal guarantees the banks do not have to care if the loan is sensible or repayable. I suggest that it leads to bad lending. If banks had to be convinced the Ltd company could repay the loan they would be forced to be more diligent and careful in lending. If Directors/owners can not get the loan that way then they should take out personal loans and put new cash into their company for shares if they think it safe, or find other investors. If it is not safe to put your own money in then it is not for the bank either! We rely on debt far too much instead of investment, or retaining profits, inside the company.

I do have some agreement with you in that banks should bounce every single transaction that would take more than you have from your account. They would of course charge you for the letters informing you and a fee for bouncing the payment etc. However I suspect most who contravene the rules would rather that did not happen, and make even more fuss if it did.

As they operate on the basis that you may dip you hand in their pocket and get charged for it, it is up customers to ensure they only take what they have agreed they may. Of course it is not pure theft but the generalised principle is that taking what is not yours without asking.

Like all commercial operations Bank are only here to make money out of us. They 'cheat' in far more serious ways to my mind than charging what they said they would. The worst 'crime' in my book of banks is the deliberate sidelining of savings accounts. I would regulate that all accounts offered have to maintain the highest advertised interest rate, relative to a reference like the official bank rate or their own libor thing. They may close them to new customers, but never, ever, ever, drop the relative rate below the rate people took out, no sidelining down on 0.1% interest. It is an underhand practise deliberately intended to take advantage of particularly older people who thought they have put their savings away sensibly, and not part of their 'cheating' world of new customers count for more and despising of old customers.

About time these greedy complainers were set back. Lots of things in life are excessively expensive, you just have to avoid getting yourself into the situation of being able to be charged them. We all knew bank charges are high for breaking their rules, get over it pay up and get on. You took money without asking first and without permission, from any other company, or person, you would be in jail for theft, so count yourselves very lucky it is only some fees!

I hope ALL the claims are thrown out as they deserve to be.
Wednesday 21 October 2009 02:37am on 22 Oct 2009 What was hilarious was the politicians pretending they 'understand' 'listen' etc. The problem is and has been for decades that they, the politicians, have never listened to the people especially the poorer working class and blithely dragged in as many cheap cleaners and gardeners for themselves as possible. While most of the population keeps telling them they want no more immigrants. So we get the farce of this newsnight with politicians still telling us they know what we really mean rather than what we actually say!

No one cares what race immigrants are the just want them out of our country. See your own BBC /Mori poll!

The entire rich poor divide that has got worse is down to cheap labour being let in, so low earners do not become scarce and have to be paid more! Keeping the posh fancy job rich ever richer like we see the BBC staff like newsreaders, let alone the Ross, Paxman, and Wogans.
Blair for President? 11:08pm on 03 Oct 2009 Selling out an entire country and their taxes must seem a small price to pay for a plum sinecure to salve Bliar's non existent conscience. Well finally having admitted his catholicism it is only a quick confession and his crimes are wiped away.

Who will lead us to war this time to topple this cabal of Empire builders? Napoleon, Stalin, Hitler, and now the EU elite political cabal. Round and round goes the repeating wheel of history. Names not intents only change.

Lets get it over with and put the lying gasping political elites back in their box yet again. I am past caring about playing by bent cheats rules. Please get to it soon so I can enjoy helping.
