A prize deserved? 11:18pm on 09 Oct 2009 The reason for the award is simple, but people don't seem to see it. I think that is because people on this board as well as in the Western media do not look at the Nobel peace prize award criteria from the perspective of world peace. They look at it from their own short term interests.
The simple reason why he won it is because the world is a more peaceful place with Obama at the helm in the US. Under Bush, the US was fundamentally an outlaw nation - a pariah nation. And when the worlds greatest military power happens to be an outlaw nation, it is enormously dangerous to the rest of the world. Obama has changed that.
The Howard Years 01:48am on 23 Dec 2008 I think what this article confirms is what many Asians have always believed. Howard is a racist, bigot. He has consistently shown hatred towards Asians and other minorities and his close association with Bush was also part of his tribal thinking. In some ways it is a wonder that Australians voted him so many times as their PM. On the other, it is not, knowing the Australian sports fans' notoriously racist behaviour towards visitors. I am glad that I live in Canada. A man who behaved like Howard will be not survive for long as a leader in Canada, I am proud to say.
Australia outdone by a superior side 12:13pm on 12 Nov 2008 This is a rather rediculous assertion - 'unthinkable'?? What are you talking about? Australia will struggle to beat many teams away from home these days - especially in South Asia, but not limited to there. Pakistan will struggle to beat Aus due to the former's constant chaos in the cricketing world. But Sri Lanka likely will beat Aus without much difficulty. England is likely to beat Aus as well. South Africa too will give a good fight. NZ won't. WI won't either, unless the Millions have made a difference! But really, Aus are no longer what they were. Let's accept that as a fact.
There's something about Allen 01:49am on 04 Nov 2008 It's pathetic to compare Clinton and Blair to Mandela. Clinton and Blair are the typical slimey, masters of spin. Of course all fools fall for people like them. Mandela is a man of substance. He was never a slimey character. About Stanford being like Clinton and Blair: Sure, it is easy to imagine. But, please leave Mandela out of it.
Too 'European' 11:55am on 03 Nov 2008 So, Obama is more 'European'. What does it mean? It means that he is more worldly, more sophisticated, dare I say, more civilized. American needs him. The world needs him!
Questions need answering over Champions League 02:27am on 11 Jun 2008 Sure, in the first year, players from some countries will not be represented. But over time, the best from every country will be part of one team or another. If a team is to win the final, and thus the big prize money, they will have to have the best bunch of players possible. This means that the best players, from wherever they are, will always be part of a team, whether it is an India based team or a UK based team. The rules for hiring players will have to be relaxed. If an English county are to have a serious chance of winning the cup, they will have to get rid of the journeymen and hire the best from around the world. So, I do not see a problem.
