The most divisive and tasteless selection in cricket history 7:44pm on 09 Sep 2008 Spot on with the Stanford match. These players aren't representing their country in this match, merely trying to make themselves even richer. When we see someone like KP hit a century or Harmy getting 5 wkts we can see them celebrate because of not only it means to them, but the team, the fans and the country. If one of our boys takes 5 wkts in this farce, all he be doing is celebrating the fact his bank balance may shot up.

It's tasteless and potentially a negative influence on the camp.

I watched Rooney's interview before the game where he defended his lack of goals by saying his game was all about scoring goals. If he were a midfielder I'd agree, crying shame he's a striker though!

I can't see using getting anything from Wednesdays game. The players are nervous and still struggling to translate anything like their premiership performance to their international ones.

I'd like to see Capello drop the long-time underperforming Wayne Rooney, but I won't hold my breath.
Keegan exit turns heat on Ashley 7:19pm on 02 Sep 2008 Why did the Newcastle board not release this statement earlier? Why can't they confirm who the manager of NUFC is? It's not like the BBC, Sky and other media outlets decided to make the story up this morning. Something has happened at that club.

Don't portray the media as the bad guy in all this.
TMS changes explained 00:11am on 23 Aug 2008 As someone who doesn't have SKY, I've come to rely on it more and more, so I would hate for it to be dumbed down. If it got as bad as the BBC's football coverage, that would be disastrous. They just employ ex-pro after ex-pro, with only a handful being any good at it. Something I hope TMS will avoid in the future.

Personally I liked Stewart and thought Tuffers was a breath of fresh air. I think Simon Hughes would be a welcome addition to the team too. However too many ex-pros in the box is not desirable.
Graham Gooch's England ratings 10:11pm on 11 Aug 2008 The ratings for Vaughan, Strauss and Bell are far too high.

Vaughan barely scored a run all series.

Strauss scores one fifty and that get's him a 6? Strauss seems to have gone backwards as a player since his recall. Maybe Denly should be given a try.

Bell scored 199, but how many times did he fail after that? His gutless, dismal surrender with the bat in the third test was the final straw for me. He's a Hick or Ramprakash for the 21st Century. Talented, but mentally weak.
Harmison and Anderson shine for KP 8:08pm on 07 Aug 2008 At the start of the summer Englands bowling attack, whilst adequate enough to deal with New Zealand, looked predictable and lacking variation. The main thing it missed though was pace.

Harmison's return has addressed this fault and the teams attack now has a good balance to it. It's not perfect; Broad still looks weak with the ball and Anderson can still be expensive. Still with practice and more experience of playing together maybe this unit can cause some really havoc against the Australians next year.
Outstanding Smith deserves his success 10:23pm on 02 Aug 2008 The decision the England selectors have to make is whether they feel this squad of players are capable of winning back the Ashes next year. Do they think Vaughan is merely in a poor run of form and still the best captain for the job or is it time to give someone else the role. I like Vaughan. He's been a very good clood captain for England and at times a classy batsman. However we do seem to be stagnating as a team and some fresh ideas and new blood are needed.

Calls for Key to do it are insane though. The man is unproven at test level and you want him to establish himself with the burden of captaincy?

The only realistic candidates are Strauss, Pieterson and Collingwood. Personally I would give the role to KP. I know people dislike him because he's brash, arrogant and perceived to be selfish. However when Collingwood first came out to bat in the second innings, Pieterson kept reassuring him between balls and helped him settle in. Not the actions of a selfish man who only cares about himself.

I think if he was made ODI and Test captain the responsibility would do him good.

Brilliant Flintoff brings Test back to life 7:29pm on 31 Jul 2008 If we can bowl South Africa out for a lead of around 50, then England can start trying to get into a position where they could win the game. The pitch is meant to turn by days 4 and 5 and that means Monty comes into play.

With regards to Freddie, this is what England fans have been waiting to see. Flintoff almost single handedly managed drag England back into the game. The only worry is that he looks the only dangerous bowler at the moment and Vaughan may up having to over use him.

Still quibbles aside, it's nice to have Flintoff back. The only good things from the games from an English prospective seem to have come from him.
Frail batting costs England again 7:09pm on 30 Jul 2008 This was a truly spineless and turgid performance from England. We've now been bowled out twice in a row on the opening day of a test. Last time there were excuses about Englands team balance and personal. Now we have a team with six batsmen, get a solid start and still underperform. I've read people praising Collingwoods character, prescence in the dressing room and other attributes. Yet the man is in awful form, his innings today was painful to watch. He needs to go before he damages his reputation permenantly.

The selectors , playersand coaches need to have a look at themselves after todays performance. On this form the Australians will destroy us in 2009.
England bowling lacks menace 7:30pm on 21 Jul 2008 Vaughan is a quality captain and widely respected in the game. Just because he's had 2 poor games with the bat in a row people are now calling for his head; sheer madness.

In most cases it's their own personal dislike of Vaughan rather than any compelling reason to drop him.
